Project Summary

This project has been established within the context of the twinning of the cities of Nuremberg and Glasgow. It is the result of careful negotiation and discussion by both schools as well as the International Office of both city councils. It is the continuation of 4 years of previous visits which have been very successful and have met a number of objectives. The main objective of the project is to reduce youth unemployment in each city for young people with Additional Support Needs (Special Needs/Disabilities) through participating in a programme of activities related to hospitality. The project will support 24 young people in total over the 2 years, with 6 young people going on each of the 4 visits. All of the young people participating in the project will have some form of Additional Support Need and will have an interest in working in the hospitality or hotel industry. There will be a range of both learning and cultural activities aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of the young people and staff, ranging from joint cookery lessons and visits to hotels, to trips to restaurants and places of natural beauty in each corresponding country. The project will be planned during an initial planning visit and communication will take place by email and through an etwinning page. It is hoped that the project will result in more young people with Additional Support Needs moving in to full time employment (particularly in the hospitality industry) on leaving school. By engaging in this project it will enhance staff development as well as raising the profile of each school. The overall aim and objective is to improve employment opportunities by enhancing the skills and competencies of the young people through the partnership with each other and the opportunity to learn and develop in a wider European context.
