Project Summary
We hope that our project will promote understanding, tolerance, solidarity and friendship, in the educational communities of the two schools involved, thus contributing to the development of common values of European citizenship among our pupils, guiding them towards a greater respect for human rights at all levels. Both partners have always been actively involved in the fight against discriminatory attitudes, contributing to the construction of an inclusive society and to the achievement of the goal of education for all.
We want to take a broader view of education for all, regardless of the difference and difficulty of the students. The educational community must be aware of the needs of each pupil, and inform and sensitise as many of their pupils as possible, who will take over the fight against any marginalisation and exclusion. Our ultimate goal is to form better citizens of today’s plural Europe.
Our choice of priorities is based on an inclusive approach that allows teachers and learners to feel comfortable with diversity, considering it as an opportunity and an enrichment rather than as a problem. Although this is the first European project of both partners, we share the main objective of providing an adequate response to the learning needs of our learners, in a formal and informal education context. Therefore, we have adopted activities and contents that aimed at strengthening inclusion in education.
The two partner schools are located in a rural environment and the pupils come from a rather lower to average middle class background. They also have experience in the inclusion of pupils with special needs. However there are significant differences in educational approaches due to cultural diversity. This has allowed us to learn and benefit from each other for the benefit of the students.
Teachers have been able to involve their students in our project-based, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary activities in formal and non-formal education contexts (participation in themed days, workshops during school trips; creation of various media; acrostic and poster competitions; solidarity running course, concerts, food and clothes collect). The elected representatives of the Maison des lycéens have actively participated in this project as well as colleagues from different disciplines (modern languages, French, history-geography, PE, theatre, eco-management, EMC, documentalist, etc.). We will not ignore the total commitment of the CPE who actively participated in the interventions of the week of commitment (Semaine de l’engagement) and the solidarity run (2 heures du LAB) in the French school. We also collaborated with the elected students of the Maison des lycéens; they took initiatives at the end of the project and intend to reorganise future activities to defend human rights.
The 4 school trips allowed the students to exchange and learn from each other. Many of them became ambassadors to their peers, sharing their travel experiences and common activities. They were able to build strong links with the partner pupils and improve acceptance and tolerance of differences.
Many exhibitions on discrimination, harassment, secularism, peace and other common values were organised. Pupils’ productions (videos, escape games, posters, poems, speeches, slideshows, photos, bookmarks, logos, slogans, comics, padlets, shorts films) were promoted through exhibitions, on each school’s website, via Twinspace et the local academique ‘Porte des Alpes’ website. The Spanish school has a space dedicated to the project at the entrance of the school. Promotional items with our project logo were distributed during the open day to publicise the existence of our project and its objectives.
We wanted to run 1 project in 2 countries via 3 languages. We were pleasantly surprised by the participation in 5 languages (English, French, Spanish, Italian and German) in the acrostic poem contest to celebrate the Erasmus Days. Pupils were guided and encouraged to develop their creativity to become socially and digitally conscious actors. We have seen a change of mentality in the teaching teams and an active participation of the pupils in the project activities organised. The survey at the end of the project with a participation of more than 300 pupils and their request for continuity in the fight against discrimination and exclusion. We believe that we can count on our teaching staff, the management and especially our students to participate in solidarity activities in the years to come. Moreover, the Spanish school is planning to apply for other European projects (KA101/KA201/KA226/KA229) in order to continue our efforts in the fight against all forms of discrimination and exclusion. The application of the French school has been selected for a KA 101 project (2020-2022) as well as the Erasmus Accreditation 2021-2027, which implies a continuation of our actions in the long term.
