Project Summary
Many of Europe’s rural and peripheral communities are currently experiencing socio-economic disadvantages, but they still hold and preserve relevant knowledge, skills and resources in regards to pressing contemporary issues such as creating sustainable economies and initiating durable citizen-led support structures.
The project ECOLE_IG offered innovative inter-generational and inter-disciplinary learning opportunities to disadvantaged communities across six European local projects with the aim to grow young people’s social and entrepreneurial capacities and their potential to set up innovative and sustainable models for locally embedded future livelihoods.
The six partners involved in ECOLE_IG spanned from activist NGOs to internationally renowned research and cultural organisations in rural, urban and suburban settings. This combination of cross-sectoral partners meant, that the Ecole_IG was conceived and delivered collaboratively as a practice-led, diverse and inter-disciplinary programme which would successfully address locals and non-locals, specialists and activists, researchers, educators, community workers, cultural producers and policy makers.
The main result of ECOLE_IG is a publication called ‘Learn to Act, which documents best practice peer-led knowledge exchange (available in print or pdf download). The project results have been disseminated on local, national and international level.
The impact of the Ecole_IG can be measured on three different levels:
– Partner level and extended local shareholder networks (new learning programmes, new local and regional learning alliances)
– Participant level and local target groups (growth in individual knowledge awareness and communication skills, confidence building)
– Reaching specialist national and international audiences (introducing relevant topics such as links between civic pedagogy and community resilience building, the need for more inter-generational learning, and connecting cultural with economic matters).
