Project Summary

Especially in times of the Corona-virus, every human being is suddenly reminded that and how globalized the world actually is. These effects can also be seen when taking nature into account. Within the past century, the number of inhabitants of the world has nearly quadrupled. Each of these human beings has the same needs concerning food, clothing and education. This has caused the world industry to increase the production of goods, which effects the environment negatively in various ways.
Being in charge of the future world is one of the main challenges today’s youth has to face. Therefore, Melanchthon-Gymnasium Nürnberg, Germany, and Silkeborg Gymnasium, Denmark, have decided to increase the cultural and environmental awareness of their students together. Both schools will give 28 pupils (aged 15 – 18) the chance to broaden their horizon. All of them will use eTwinning to prepare their stay in the other country (if the involved parties are successful in their use of eTwinning). During the exchange, environment and climate change will be part of the students’ programme. This will be discussed as practical as possible, e.g. when producing bee’s wraps. Apart from that, the pupils will enlarge their intercultural knowledge about the living conditions in two neighbouring EU-countries when visiting their host families. At the same time, their language skills will improve.
Both participating schools are committed to using the results of the project in the long-term. The increased cultural and environmental awareness will have an impact on the life of the students’ families who will get the possibility to rethink their own attitude towards our environment. Apart from that, the students’ families will have a closer connection to another family living in Europe. In a regular school exchange, it sometimes happen that the pupils and/ or their families stay in touch and met again regularly.
Regarding the schools, it it worth mentioning that the school development group of Melanchthon-Gymnasium Nürnberg is currently working on new environmental goals for the school. The connection to another European school will support this development and implement changes in every-day school life.
The participation at Erasmus+, the partnership with another European school and the project will be shared with the school family, e.g. by installing posters about the project in the school building or by sharing the new knowledge with our future pupils and their parents at the annual open house presentation. We also take the current pupils and their parents into view. They will get the chance to get in touch with the plans and results of the project by reading about it on the school’s homepages, intranet or in the annual year book. To reach a broader audience, we will contact the local newspaper and ask them to publish an article about the partnership and the project. Melanchton-Gymnasium Nürnberg will also send a letter to Nuremberg’s “Umweltreferat”, a department of the city of Nuremberg with special emphasis on the environment, containing information about our partnership and the results of the project.
