Project Summary
Guinean higher education stakeholders are faced with a number of challenges relating to their country’s development and how to position it within the arena of dynamic change in the subcontinent and continent. These include the absence of strategic planning in place, the lack of governing institutions, the need for capacity building…It is within this context that the INDIGO project is proposing a series of common measures focusing on improving governance and institutional management, and is working to develop quality-monitoring procedures within Guinean universities. The goal is to contribute to the modernisation of the country’s universities through the creation of development plans for educational institutions. In order to achieve this the project will focus on five key steps: the undertaking of a review of existing quality monitoring procedures and drafting of an educational institution development plans; generating action plans; capacity building for staff; the education and training of the university community that will take ownership of the project; managing the implementation of action plans and development plans for educational institutions within partner universities. There are three types of expected outcomes: a lasting improvement in internal management within Guinean HE establishments; the introduction of appropriate governance structures with internal and external representation; and the widening application of project outcomes within key universities throughout Guinea. In conjunction with one another these actions will allow the country’s universities to realistically strive towards international standards in governance and quality control. This will have a positive impact on the public image of these institutions within society, making it easier for Guineans to receive the training and support they need for employment. New opportunities for international cooperation will stem from this in the subcontinent, Africa and the rest of the world.
