Project Summary
Our Multilateral School Partnership Project ‘‘Invitation to Traditional Street Games’’ focuses on that Street Games are one of the most effective ways in which children gain essential knowledge and skills for their future life. This project is addressed to students especially aged between 10 and 13 years old who are still children and need to play with their peers in the streets. Four partnership schools from Italy, Czech Republic, Portugal and Turkey find out that students in the 10-13 age range spend too much time playing online games than playing outdoors. They would rather play a game on the computer, tablet or mobile phone. They are unaware of Traditional Street Games through which in addition to having fun and getting physically exercise, they can develop their cognitive skills, cultural and social learning, positive social values and skills. Recognizing the importance of Street Games for students’ learning and development, all partner schools want to bring Traditional Street Games into students’ daily life, as a means to tackle social challenges of technological age in which television, internet, online games make them to disconnect from the natural world.
Different activities will allow the joining of different subjects such as Science, Language, Art, Music, Social Studies, PE, and ICT. Students will get an opportunity to enhance basic skills including reading, writing, questioning, organization, analyzing information and time management skills related to the activities of COMMON TRADITIONAL STREET GAME every month. By creating an OUTDOOR ACTIVITY BOOK, students will gain broad sociocultural awareness. They will learn their own culture, traditions and values by organizing a LOCAL PLAY DAY. On the other hand, they will be physically and socially active by playing with their friends at GAME CORNER in the school garden.Students will learn their environment, many concepts such as color, counting and time by playing. At the same time they will develop good morals such as fairness, kindness, self-control and respect for diversity. All activities require the use of English Language Skills and National Language Skills. Students will read, write, talk and comprehend not only in their national language but also in English. Also, the digital competences will be achieved by doing these activities since the majority of them require ONLINE PLATFORMS like TwinSpace. Students will also learn to use the internet effectively by searching information and being active for educational purposes. The impact of the project will be enormous because this project is aimed to work not only with the Students but also with Families, Local Communities and Institutions. All participants will increase their communication, cooperation, sharing, social and cultural skills.
On the other hand, we will organize three Short-Term Exchanges of Groups of Pupils consisting of five students and two teachers from each partner school and one short-term joint staff training events consisting of only three teachers from each partner school. During these meetings, participants will increase cooperation, communication, social, English language and group work skills and at the same time improve cultural awareness.
After this project, there will be the key activities in the School Plan. This way, classroom activities and outside classroom activities will be continued throughout the years. All the project objectives will be also included in School Plan in order to pursue the achievement of them. The material products of the activities will remain in school archives, so they will be available for future use. What is more, immaterial part of the project, such as experience, knowledge and skills will be permanently fixed in consciousness of the participants and documented in material stored at each school. In this way, project results will be used to support school development plans and to inform the school administration on future practice.
Students’ Families will take care of the aftermath of the project in terms of sustainability and effects on long term. The families will understand the importance of the Street Games for children’s development in every way. That’s why they will keep encouraging their children to spend much more time on Street Games than Games on the computer and the net.
Local media (papers, TV etc.) will be also used to enhance utilization of the project results in local community. All the activities created in the project and the results of the project will be published on the Internet (project website/school website/youtube) as public teaching resources. e-Twinning Project on the same subject (open to all members of e-Twinning community) will be the source of inspiration and serve as a template for creating new projects for teachers on e-Twinning Platform. Results of the project will be also published on Erasmus+ Project Results Platform in order to reach the large network of teachers interested in European Projects.
