Project Summary

Project “How can we best lead great European society? Sharing experiences of British and Polish schools in order to create, use and promote an innovative program for creating leadership attitudes in students” was implemented in two schools with students aged 12 to 16: King David’s Secondary School (the coordinator) and The King’s School (the United Kingdom). This was the first project implemented by these schools under the Erasmus+ Program. The implementation of the project took 30 months. The working language of the project was English. The main objective of the project was to exchange good practices in the schools: the captain’s program from the British school and tutoring and Career Direct® from the Polish school. The schools sought to create an attitude-shaping program using these three tools. Sharing the experience and working methods, and above all a systematic 30 months’ long work on developing the program allowed us to create a totally innovative program of educational work and development of individual competencies, “A Guide to Methods of Shaping Leadership Attitudes in Young People in Secondary School, Based on the Captain’s Program, Tutoring and Career Direct®”.
Within the project, two main groups of activities can be identified: during mobilities and in intervals between mobilities. Mobilities were attended by a total of 40 teachers/tutors from both partner institutions and 61 students with 9 supervisors. At the same time, a total of around 300 students were involved in the project activities during the time between mobilities.
Work during mobilities and in intervals between them allowed the following results to be achieved:
– professional development of teachers through the exchange of experience with staff from the partner school,
– professional development of teachers through the participation in specialist training sessions and through the use of Career Direct®
– development of leadership skills in young people through working in international groups,
– development of co-operational skills over cultural and ethnic differences, as well as over communication barriers,
– gaining or deepening other skills, both by teachers and by students,
– gaining new interpersonal competences both by staff and by students,
– gaining entrepreneurial competences by students,
– setting the path for further professional and personal development both for students and teachers in accordance with Career Direct®.
A material result is also “A Guide to Methods of Shaping Leadership Attitudes in Young People in Secondary School, Based on the Captain’s Program, Tutoring and Career Direct®”. It has been made available as a free e-book on the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform, on both schools’ websites, on the project Facebook fan-page, in a mailing to about 1000 schools in Europe and during numerous dissemination activities.
The impact of the project after its completion is evident in the participants of the project and their present skills and attitudes. The effect is also seen, for example, in the fact that both partners continue to use the innovative program that was created thanks to the project. It is also used in other schools that have decided to implement it, among others, as part of the project “Raising a wise man” financed by the Polish Ministry of National Education.
Long-term benefits include first of all the fact that at least 61 students from our schools are leaders in their communities today, shaping them in a permanent and responsible way. Additonally, in both partner schools the quality of work has improved as a result of optimizing responsibilities in accordance with Career Direct® results. Our schools’ graduates in the years 2015-2017 have also shaped their career paths in accordance with Career Direct® results. Therefore a long-term benefit will also be the fact that they will optimize their potential and will be effective participants in the European job market.
