Project Summary
We decided to carry out this project because recently schools in the Czech and Slovak republic only monitor the level of success in entrance examinations for university studies but there is no effective evaluation tools to get students’ feedback on whether they really continue in their studies of chosen fields or whether they quit studies and also on whether they succeeded at the job market in their region or whether they decided to start their job somewhere else.
The aim of this project was to create a methodology, which will allow to generate an evaluation tool to measure the success of students of both the schools participating in the project and others. This was published in a brochure, which was printed in languages of both participating institutions and also in German and English languages.
Two institutions took part in this project – Grammar School of Strakonice and Janka Jesenského grammar school of Bánovce nad Bebravou. Both schools are located in towns of similar size. There are about 1/3 more students at the Grammar School of Strakonice than at Janka Jesenského grammar school. Both schools also have the same success rate of students in entrance examinations to universities.
During the project the participants took part in 4 exchange stays during which they took part in workshops and seminars aimed at acquiring skills which they used while working on project activities. They were seminars focusing on creating questionnaires and working with shared documents after which there was a period of acquiring data from graduates of both schools. Then there were seminars focusing on creating presentations and presentation skills.Students then created presentations based on the data which they had acquired during the previous period. These presentations were then shown at their schools. During the next exchange stay participants took part in seminars focusing on writing academic texts and started creating text for the final brochure. In the following period they continued in creating the texts and editing them, translating and the brochure was prepared to be printed and was printed. During the last exchange stay the brochure and outcomes of the project was presented to the town and regional authorities.
The final brochure was distributed to both schools and also to town and regional authorities and in its digital form it was placed on the website of the project a so it is freely available for download. The website also contains links to individual questionnaires which were used to acquire data from the respondents – the graduates of both schools. Presentations which were shown to students a teachers of both schools motivated the audience to consider their choice of university better based on the feedback they were presented so that they do not have to change their field of study during their studies and also so that they can plan their future better when they finish the studies.
According to the fact that the outcomes of the project will be available on the website of the project even in the future it will be possible to present them to more students of both schools. The brochures which were created during the project will be distributed during other events organised by both schools e.g. open door days.
