Project Summary
The KeyComps project was aimed at sustainable development in the school environment, focusing on the environmental, cultural, economic, socio-social and institutional level. It corresponded with the big challenges of today’s world such as employment, economic stability and growth, active participation on democratic life incorporating them into the ordinary activities of schools. Development of key competences of pupils and teachers with particular emphasis on entrepreneurial education and active citizenship, foreign languages and digital competences was considered a significant pillar of the school development. Project activities in the 1st year were focused on Ecology and Cultural Heritage, in the 2nd year on Active Citizenship and Partnerships for Sustainable Development.
The project lasted 3 years and fulfilled several goals:
– developed basic and universal skills such as entrepreneurship, digital and multilingual skills
– promoted innovative teaching practices, enabled the transfer of best practices to school´s educational programs
– expanded partner school capacities in particular in strategic development, management, quality of educational offer with close links to the world of work
– strengthened the cooperation of schools with teh self-government and the local community
– promoted language teaching and learning, the wide linguistic diversity of the EU and improvement of intercultural awareness.
Geographically and culturally diverse partnership consisted of 9 schools with rich experience and strong project potential. The partner countries were Poland, Italy (2 schools), Portugal, Hungary, Spain, Slovenia, Turkey. Project participants were pupils, teachers, managers of elementary and secondary schools.
Six transnational meetings were held within the project involving staff and pupils from partner schools. Main activities to achieve the project’s results were the study and gathering of relevant information from literature, the Internet, creation of educational materials, questionnaire evaluation activities, their processing and evaluation, organizing transnational project meetings, pupil´s and teacher´s presentations, discussions and interviews, creative workshops on the development of key competences, organizing lectures / seminars for teachers, socio-cultural excursions.
The results of the project are PC presentations, reports, videos, methodology for pupils focusing on ecology, protection of cultural heritage, active citizenship and partnerships for sustainable development, entrepreneurial skills development, economic development of the partner regions, development of digital skills, multiculturalism, UNESCO monuments in the partner countries, making an international musical. Teachers and school managers shared experience in areas such as marketing presentation of the school, innovative elements in teaching, managing psychologically challenging situations in the teacher’s work, school public relations, elimination of negative phenomena and early school leaving, equality and solidarity in a school practice.
The project represents European added value and brought benefits at different levels:
a) local, regional and national: developing key competences of pupils, teachers and school managers, cooperation in international teams, transfer of best practices and innovation to school curricula, strengthening the position of schools in a competitive environment;
b) European / international: expanding the international capacity of partner institutions, promoting the European dimension in education, expanding the network of partners, promoting the growth of intercultural awareness and European citizenship, promoting the European Community in the context of the European vision of personal responsibility and competences, met the Erasmus Plus priorities.
Project results will be available and usable by pupils, teachers in partner schools:
– in school management and marketing (innovating school education programs, supporting the cooperative climate in the pedagogical staff, planning the further teachers´ training, improving the pupil-teacher interaction)
– in the teaching process (foreign languages, ICT, geography, history, civics, ecology, natural sciences – mathematics, physics, vocational subjects)
– at national and international level the results of the project can be used by the wide public through the Erasmus Plus results platform.
