Project Summary
At Canons High School we host at least one school from abroad each year. We have been host this academic year to a large number of teachers and ministers from other countries; Norway, Sweden, Belgium, USA, Peru and Australia. Our teachers and students do not get the opportunity to visit and observe good practice in other countries due to the pressure on budgets. We want to look outwards and work with our European partners as we strongly believe in the idea of an outward facing school.
1) To give the opportunity for our students to practice their language and presentation skills with native speakers.
2) For our Languages teachers to exchange good practice, techniques and methods between countries.
3) To share what we learn from our visit with local partner schools and to support them in applying to start their own similar projects.
In total 45 students and 20 teachers will participate with this project (three students from each schools) and many more will be impacted by the visits. This project is truly inclusive as we will have students from primary and secondary, we will also have students from different demographics. During the visits the teachers involved will prepare workshops for their host teachers to demonstrate what they do to deliver quality language lessons. After each meeting all the teachers involved will reflect on what they learnt during the trip and pledge something they will try to roll out or include in their own planning and delivery of their home curricular. From that time to the next meeting teachers will attempt to fulfil their pledge and record the results, bringing these to the next meeting.
I would hope that everyone involved will use something they learn to influence their future teaching. I hope that our students get a better understanding of learning language but also form long lasting links with children from the different countries. We will also share the results of this project with our local network around the CPTSA.
I would like this trip to kick start even more international collaboration between Canons High School and these schools. I hope that the impacts of this project will help our local partners realise the importance of international collaboration, and help put more resources to apply or part fund future collaborations.
