Project Summary
The school partnership “Learning Beyond Reality” (twitter #LEBERE) is a crossover between the technologies Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Greenscreen-Technology and Gamification. The focus is on the question of how these technologies can be used in a meaningful way for teaching and learning in schools.
5 schools are dedicated to this question: The coordinating school is the Rennbuckel-Realschule from Karlsruhe (Germany). Also involved are: Lentiz | Reviuslycum (Netherlands), Primary school Bistrica ob Sotli (Slovenia), Liceo scientifico A. Righi Cesena (Italy) and Muuramen lukio (Finland). All schools have in common that they implement digital learning intensively. 4 out of 5 schools even have 1:1 Bring Your Own iPad classes. What unites us is a look into the future: We want to change schools. We want to revolutionize teaching. We want to rethink learning and teaching.
For this reason, a total of 16 teachers from 5 countries will be on their way from November 2019. Our journey begins in Holland, where we want to explore the possibilities and opportunities of Augmented Reality in the classroom. In spring 2020 we will visit Slovenia and take a look at the greenscreen technology. In October 2020 we will visit the Finnish school, which already has great expertise in Virtual Reality. With this know-how in our luggage, we will hold a Mobile Learning Conference with the title “Learning Beyond Reality” in Karlsruhe, Germany for the first time in February 2021 and expect more than 120 participants. There, in workshops and keynotes, we will make our collective teaching experience and knowledge available to the general public. At the same time, our learning process and our output can be followed on www.learning-beyond-reality.eu and on the YouTube channel of the same name. You can also tweet under the Hashtag #LEBERE.
We look forward to a project, which leaves space and time for the Hospitation of instruction hours as well as the guidance in the respective schools. Where else can you learn the most for your own school and lesson development? Since this project is exclusively about didactics and methodology, there are no school children planned as participants. Rather, we regard the project as a joint further education for teachers from all over Europe. Even if it sometimes seems that Europe would fall apart – here in this project we are united: we ask the same questions, we strive for the same goals. Only our cultures and school conditions make the implementation look diverse. But that is precisely where the tension, the challenge, the joy of Europe lies.
