Project Summary

This partnership has been set up with the aim of providing a complement to professional training in horticulture in Europe for both learners and teachers/trainers.

To achieve this objective, we have chosen subjects from different areas of horticulture that are already taught in some countries where teachers have shown their approach to colleagues while students have had the chance to learn subjects that are rather neglected in their countries and therefore represented niche areas in some countries.

The target groups were therefore students as well as teachers and trainers, who were not only accompanying teachers but active participants in these very practical training courses. The added value for the partner teachers was increased motivation, as they had the opportunity to see how they could incorporate these new forms of teaching and professional aspects into their future lessons.

The participation of the teachers in the activities therefore contributed on the one hand to the training of their knowledge in alternative, innovative or niche horticultural techniques and on the other hand the teachers had the opportunity to meet European colleagues and to compare the different teaching styles and learning methods of pupils in other European countries, thus being able to develop high quality training in these niches of horticulture in order to be able to better transmit knowledge and skills to their pupils.

Thanks to the collaboration with companies in the different regions and the practical implementation of the training courses, the students were able to recognise the direct application of what was learned, which led to an increase in their motivation. In addition, as the chosen topics were niche horticultural fields and innovative techniques, this was able to lead the learners to entrepreneurial spirit and action, thus to their ability to become independent entrepreneurs with successful concepts not yet common in their home countries, thus also contributing to the creation of jobs and increasing their chances on the European horticultural market.

This approach was based on a very clear and obvious need: in all sectors horticulture needs professionals who are well trained with broad general knowledge and with specific technical and practical expertise.
Since this is not a matter of course, young workers must be able to independently acquire skills and abilities in the required fields, thanks to the high quality basic training we provide them with, enriched with the know-how acquired in the training courses of this partnership.

As environmental protection in the EU is becoming increasingly important, the majority of the activities have also served to sustainably promote the environmentally friendly approach to maintenance work, the green space that surrounds us and from which and in which we learn by doing.
Thus we chose the title of the partnership:
Learning landscape

More than 100 learners and teachers participated in the international meetings.
As these learners all presented their learning outcomes in their respective classes/groups, several dozen students and colleagues in each school were able to benefit indirectly from these outcomes.
The participants came mainly from technical, vocational or dual vocational secondary schools, and most of the time the pupils were aged 16 and higher.
Some entrepreneurs participated as students or as coaches/teachers, some entrepreneurs supported the seminars in providing material, making the practical trainer available, welcoming the group on a visit to their company, …
The entrepreneurs involved were more open to welcome trainees, even from abroad. They have had the opportunity to see that the language barrier is not an obstacle to the
not really a reason not to accept someone who does not (yet) speak the language perfectly.
As priorities for this partnership we had chosen work-based learning in cooperation with regional professional enterprises, the development of high quality skills and know-how beyond the usual curriculum for the learners and professional training for the teachers.
As the teachers were not only coaches but also active and practical participants during this seminar, it can be said that the activities contributed well to the achievement of the project objectives.
