Project Summary
Target of the project was to find out, wether it’s possible and parcticable to implement a digital learning platform into the curriculum of primary school education or not. The “Dreisprachige Internationale Grundschule” (Trilingual International Primary School) has practical experience and advantage of using digital devices in primary school education since over 15 years. Since that there is also an intense collaboration between the university (IT faculty & teachers training) and the school. Practical experiences with digital learning platforms didn’t exist before, the DIG has been just part of a previous IMAILE project and is reference school for that.
The collaboration school in Konnevesi, Finland is a model project for schools in Finland in 2030 and the finnish ministery for education and schools. They are used to work with the learning platform PEDA-Net. As conclusion of the project, refered to the question of the possibility to use a learning platformin primary school education already, can be answered like below:
The result is that digital learning platforms in primary school education can be very useful for the students, if they have experience in working with digital devices already. Furthermore it was shown that a half-open should be prefered compared to a closed platform like PEDA-Net.
The children were supposed to work in their different learning platforms for a certain time with the target to introduce the results virtually and in real life to each other. During the exchanges and travels to Magdeburg and Konnevesi, the children had to explore both platforms. They worked together in mixed groups on different tasks in the different learning environments.
For the mid- and long-term it’s expected that students aswell as teachers accept and transfer the new knowledge into their daily work and get used to the learning platform as just another digital tool to work with. Additionally the university of Magdeburg plans to implement the new experiences into their future teacher trainings.
The results were also part of the “Lehrertag” (day for teachers to present new researches) by the university Magdeburg.
