Project Summary
Our project ‘Learning Together and from Each Other ‘aims to develop long-lasting links and ties between Mount Sion CBS, Waterford and IES El Carrascal, Madrid.
Our project proposal is building on the eTwinning project of the same name, ID number 190194.
eTwinning activities are open to all class groups, representatives from each class will participate in mobilities.
Teachers can choose which class/ students for each activity. Online sessions where their students can interact live will be organised. This will be a crucial aspect of our project- we want students to learn together and from each other and will encourage as much collaboration as possible.
We have chosen topics already on the curriculum- sport, school subjects, facilities, food, describing my town etc… It is hoped the planned activities will enhance student participation and engagement rather than add to the teacher’s workload. Planned activities can be carried out with classes as a topic is being covered.
Our eTwinning space will be our main platform for meetings and sharing content and will be accessed by teachers and students. It will act as a record and a log of all our activities and give us a platform to get to know each other better. Developing Teaching and learning of Spanish and English as foreign languages is at the core of each objective. Students will be supported to create and share content in the target language with their peers. They will learn language skills in a fun, authentic, real-life context through sharing recipes, traditions, and music with their peers. They will be encouraged to be creative and use a wide variety of communication mediums to share content. Students will have deeper respect, knowledge, pride, and tolerance for their own and the other culture. Both schools will collaborate and work in a coordinated manner weekly and/or biweekly to develop the calendar of activities as agreed on eTwinning: Students will work collaboratively, both with their classmates and in interactive groups with students in the other school. We want to encourage our students to use the target language to make friends with teens from another country and learn about their culture and lifestyle. We have carefully selected activities that will appeal to our participants. We have kept the activities fun and creative rather than information and content heavy. Emphasis is on verbal skills rather than producing written work. We are working with new and exciting mediums that will appeal to the age group. Not all groups will have to do all activities- we know our audience, the arty ones, the sporty ones, the musical ones, the techies, the chefs, the history buffs- something for everyone. We will try our best to match up the groups collaborating on projects- the right project for the right student.
