Project Summary

This project arose from the needs of two complementary schools in Europe, in terms of cooperation and exchange of good practices: a primary school in London through the empowerment of musical education in their curriculum and integrating element of students at its center; and a music conservatory, specialist in instrumental musical practice and that is starting a program of English bilingual education. Both schools share similar students´age and teaching staff involved in improving their educational practice.
Our objectives were:
– To use music as a meeting place and integration among all participants.
– To improve communicative English and Spanish Language skills.
– To work collaboratively between two school centers in all the Project´s activities.
– To increase the sense of initiative through musical performance, a story, screenplay, acting and staging.
– To promote and increase ICTs as level of digital competence among pupils and teachers.
– To motivate student learning by giving projection out of the study center.
– To perform an interpretation of quality musical tale staged.
– To adopt a more active participation in society and show a more positive attitude towards European project and EU values.
– To develop new approaches in teaching-learning process to provide more attractive education and training programme.
– To produce and share sustainable resources due to different activities.

Target groups addressed were:
Conservatory: All Bilingual English Section -pupils and teachers staff-, management team, parent association, children´s choir…
Primary School: All Music Departament, pupils and teachers´staff, management team, extracurricular management team.
Finally, only Spanish children and teachers visited the English school – a total of 24 students (including a blind student) and 7 teachers. The management team and advisers of the English school resigned their visit to the Spanish conservatory. This change of plans was communicated to the national agencies of both countries and the implementation of its alternative plan agreed by both centers was authorized. New Technologies (ICTs) developed a major role in the representation of the musical story in Spain. This change has already been explainedin Progress Report.
The activities have been distributed in 2 academic years 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 constituted by the following phases:
Preliminary Phase: We created the association. A Plan of activities of information and diffusion in each educational center was developed. Activities were coordinated in both schools.
Phase 1: We teached activities in each center to create storytelling, storyboard, sheet music editing, essays, word and music integration, staging …
Phase 2: We carried out activities of preparation of the visits (Only Spanish center) with criteria for the selection of the teaching staff and students participating in the visits. The English center was in charge of making a plan, rehearsals and activities during our stay in their school.
Phase 3: Visits: Only the representatives of the Spanish conservatory visited the English center. The rehearsals were carried out with all participants of the project of both nationalities. The live performance of the musical tale in London was on 1st July 2016 and the live perfomance of the musical tale in A Coruña was on April 25th 2017 with ICT support.
Phase 4: Evaluation of results by teachers and students at the end of each academic year. This phase became very important to adap resources for the tale perfomance in the second academic year in Spain.
Phase 5: Evaluation and closure of the project. Final Report preparation and results publication.
Results, impact and benefits:
