Project Summary
The purpose of the project was to address issues that would help teachers improve their work in leading the learning process for schoolchildren who come from different social environments, with special attention given to those schoolchildren in social risk groups and the children of re-emigrants, as well to prepare teachers for the possibility of integrating children of refugees into general education schools. Purposeful and motivated attention to study is possible for schoolchildren only when the negative influence of the surrounding social environment has first been reduced as much as possible, and when a positive atmosphere and friendly relationships exist among the schoolchildren. The social situation in all three schools of general education involved in the project is very similar. Much attention is given to inclusive education and work with children with a different social experience. The main goal is to learn and implement new, innovative teaching methods, techniques and forms of work in the schools – ones which would help to minimise the negative influence of the surrounding social environment on the relationships among the children and on the learning process, which would motivate these children to study and to create in them the desire to achieve better study results. The methods are intended to resolve conflicts, to reduce tension in interpersonal relationships, and to learn positive communication models. Schoolchildren acquired an understanding of the principles of safety, responsibility and respect, and how to act in ways that are safe, responsible and respectful in everyday situations. Teachers learned skills for giving support to schoolchildren, developing and cultivating their emotional intelligence.During the international teaching and learning activities each school taught the partners a method that could be applied in a practical way in the teaching process, and which was the one that was used with success in their school. The methods and skills learned would be ones which were intended for use primarily with schoolchildren aged 12-16. In this way, partner school teachers passed on their own good experience in teaching work with schoolchildren according to the goals of the project. Participants for the project were selected from teachers who had good work results and appropriate experience – social studies teachers, the schools’ social pedagogues, home room (advisory) teachers, sports teachers, art teachers, foreign language teachers, computer teachers, and methodologists. The teachers familiarised themselves with and took away the best experience of the partners, in cooperation with the school’s social pedagogue, as well as the municipal social service, specialist for the protection of children’s rights, youth centre and municipality. This helped to resolve problems of justice, diversity and inclusivity, in this way furthering the development of the European Union.
