Project Summary

The project “Live the city through urban art” has meant the continuity of two KA101 projects carried out by the Coordinating Center, deepening the values and bases of European identity. By focusing on the city as a nucleus that generates culture and inclusive values, it supposes the sustainability of those, expanding it by focusing on student mobility and the creation of a strategic partnership of cooperation of two centers with similar characteristics in terms of location , characteristics of the students and methodological style: located in the peripheral area of the capitals of Spain and France (Azuqueca in the Madrid belt, Noisy-le-Grand in the vicinity of Paris); both have the vocation of internationality developed through their international sections: the Lycée International de l’Est Parisien (LIEP) American, Arabic, Chinese, Brazilian and Bachibac) and the IES Professor Domínguez Ortiz with a European Section of French in ESO and Baccalaureate in high school. The project, framed in the teaching of the Non-Linguistic Disciplines of the European Section of French and the Bachibac, has been worked in an interdisciplinary way from the subjects of Biology and Geology, Geography and History and Philosophy; and also from the subjects of French and Spanish, so the vehicular languages have been French and Spanish.
The objectives to be covered were drawn in three complementary directions: the development of tolerance and inclusion values, the improvement of linguistic competences and an interdisciplinary work methodology that would make it possible to insert them into the curriculum, deepening a collaborative use of ICTs: applications, networks, platforms and the elaboration of materials that show the improvement in quality and the added value of teamwork. The backbone of the actions and productions has been reflected in the social networks of the participants, a web page and especially in Etwinning, a very useful tool to bring together and articulate in Twinspace the large volume of work carried out (applications, audiovisual material , interactive presentations, evaluations, etc.) Working from the beginning on this platform made it possible to adapt to strictly virtual environments in confinement time and to replace some of the face-to-face activities
The mobility of short-term students, the object of the project, sought to analyze in situ in the reference cities (Paris and Madrid) the artistic antecedents of these expressions (Pompidou Center, Reina Sofía Museum) and their impact on certain neighborhoods (Ménilmontant, Lavapiés ), as well as to share work carried out and review of its design. Due to COVID, only the first mobility (Noisy / Paris) could be physically completed, the second having to be adapted to virtual environments.
The results have been highly satisfactory, meeting the objectives. All this has positively resulted in the internationalization of both Centers. We highlight that the mobility of 15 students between 15 and 18 years old accompanied by 3 teachers (in the activity that could be carried out physically) was more than satisfied by expanding from 15 to 25 participants, thus making it possible to extend the benefits to the maximum number of possible students, thanks to the anticipation in the management and the format of accommodation in families and boarding school of the Center that minimized expenses without compromising quality.
Apart from this action, which in itself already improved the impact of the project, the results have been immediately reflected in an improvement in the linguistic skills of the participants (recently verified results in the school DELF tests) in the use of the put into practice in this project to obtain by the Coordinating Center the Erasmus accreditation, and the improvement of the urban environment of Azuqueca by having a mural made on the walls of the IES Domínguez Ortiz. Said mural is contextualized in a local youth leisure area (Skate rink, European Youth Space), providing references that can redirect other actions that are not always respectful of the world of graffiti.
The long-term benefits have already been incorporated into teaching practice with the methodological transformation (for example, didactic units in which students participate in the development of reference materials) and the use of platforms. We hope to give continuity to the association with new projects and visibility to Etwinning (request for quality seals). Likewise, we contemplate the possibility of deepening the potential of this platform, launching virtual participation events such as the one proposed in Erasmusday for the digital transformation of the walls of educational centers throughout Europe, and “Making Off”, training and diffusion day in TICS and Etwinning.
