Project Summary

The project ´s basic priorities, the detected needs and the proposed aims are based on the work of the Reading Community El Rey Rojo (http://elreyrojo.wordpress.com) has already done during three years . The Reading Community is composed by three Spanish partners of this project: Center for Innovation and Training Education of Huesca, Comarca del Somontano and University of Zaragoza. The work is carried out in a rural environment with difficulties in accessing public services. For this reason, it is very important to bring training and reading to these areas to in order to achieve the challenges that a globalized world demands. Then, the cooperation between institutions and the development of services through new technologies are crucial elements in our society and, also are the targets of this project.

With this project we want to provide mediators, students and users of libraries with tools in order to develop the linguistic competence, the multilingualism and ICT competence. Also, we want to achieve an opening for disadvantaged rural areas towards an international horizon through the work of the European project with other countries. The work with fiction books and non-fiction will help to achieve the project´s goals, because the reading creates competent and critical students. On the other hand, the project wants to develop the pleasure for reading and ensure a lifelong learning through reading and also to train citizens in cultural competence. For this, we believe that the collaboration between school and library plays an important role. That is why we need to compare and establish collaboration models between both institutions. Book trailer’s creation by students will increase their digital competence and also they will learn to use citizen participation tools from the social web. We want to provide all mediators, from formal and non formal education, with tools and formation in order to develop their professional task and achieve the project´s goals. Thus, we want to create efficient readers, support multilingualism, work on digital literacy, open our borders and provide users with tools to cope with current and future society. Taking as a starting point the work analyzed, it is shown that the mediator has a fundamental role in this process, for this reason it is essential the formation of all involved agents. PISA report and the results obtained in the European countries partners, we see that the students from these countries have better results than Spanish students in linguistic competence. Therefore, we understand that we need to know how they work and share their methodologies, and also knowing the coordinated work between school and local libraries, as well as sharing training spaces. All these aims will help to achieve the maximum development of this competence. In order to get all this goals, a Virtual Community will be created by all the partners. To do this, through training, we will also try to improve the digital competence of all project´s members using different tools: e-learning platform, collaborative blog, information management, content creation. The outcomes and products could be considered as quality information that could be consulted at European level. The planned activities are:
• Workshop and meeting between the partner countries. Coordination, monitoring and adjustment of the process.
• Visits schools and libraries involved in the project.
• Training in the knowledge and use of digital tools and also about Children´s Literature and education. On the other hand, training about relevant aspects and characteristics of each partner´s institution, schools and libraries.
• Working about the selected books with students at the schools and also libraries.
• Book trailer’s creation.
• All of the selected books will be read at the classroom and the students will write a diary. The diary will be uploaded to the blog of the project.
• Dissemination of the project in all levels.
• Book´s exhibitions. The exhibition will have a reading didactic guide and material to be lent to schools and libraries.
The expected results will be: improving linguistic competence in languages, digital competence, the Europeanization of formal and non-formal education, the adoption of collaborative models of working between the different institutions. The dissemination will take place mainly through social networks and events on education, libraries, children’s literature, linguistic competence and European Projects.
Through this dissemination we will expect to achieve enough impact so that successful practices could be adopted and transferred over time.
