Project Summary

It is sometimes difficult to make our pupils aware of the usefulness of learning foreign languages. A concrete use of these languages made them understand that modern communication necessarily requires the knowledge of several languages and that they are a priceless asset on the job market.

Moreover, teenagers often limit their use of new technologies to social networks. To make this project work, they used these tools in a perspective of communication (thanks to the web, emails, instagram, etc.) and for concrete productions (digital activities). The pupils as well as teachers thus built new skills in IT. It is obvious that this input is also an asset for the professional future of our pupils.

The goal of this project is to establish an intercultural dialogue between young European pupils coming from very diverse social and geographical backgrounds (about 100 teenagers from four different countries) on the creation of an interactive board game. The pupils got to discover one of the main assets of Europe: its diversity. This diversity is visible in different fields: its geography, history, culture and languages.

The different steps of the project allowed our pupils to have a more precise knowledge on their own countries and to anchor it in a much wider frame: Europe. They discovered the differences between their neighbours and also their common points.
The students created the different parts of the game: the set, the logo, the rules, the box, the cards and the application for smartphones and tablets. They also made quizzes about the different European countries. To achieve this, the pupils communicated using different mediums such as the Internet, emails, instagram, etc. They tookinto account the similarities and differences between these countries inside the European Community.
The final production of this project (the game LOL) brought a very concrete dimension to this great work, which we hope will be carried on well beyond the expected end, through the continuation of personal and professional exchanges between pupils and teachers. There is no reason why we couldn’t regularly update and add new things in the application.

The impact we expected to get thanks to this project was multiple.
– First, it had to do with our pupils: we hoped to teach them tolerance and what it truly means to be a European citizen, thanks to a better self-knoweldge and an acknowledgement of others.
– It also impacted the teachers who, thanks to many exchanges on teaching between European partners, did their best to diversify their teaching approaches and, consequently, make their teaching more attractive.
– Each school has been impacted and has shone thanks to the dynamics set by the teachers, their influence on a local and regional scale.
To conclude, we can undoubtedly say that what the pupils (and the teachers involved) experienced was an everlasting source of personal satisfaction and enrichment.
