Project Summary

In the network of CIPRA International, we recognised the participation of young people in political and social life as an important part of sustainable development. With the project LOCAL (Low Carbon Alpine Lifestyles), we enabled the exchange of ideas and good practices between youngsters from the most and the least wealthy countries of the Alps. This gave them an insight into sustainable lifestyles and CO2-saving measures, which was the groundwork for starting their local projects and active participation in political decisions. While doing this, they have learned to express their opinions, seek compromises and find common solutions.

LOCAL brought young people, youth workers and representatives of different alpine municipalities together to learn from each other, experiment with sustainable lifestyles and initiate local projects. Three LOCAL municipal youth groups were strengthened and young people were motivated to get active and learn about sustainability in their daily life. Most importantly, young people were able to implement their own project idea and exchange about it with youth from another countries. The project took 16 months to be completed (As is explained in the section Project Managment and Implementation).
