Project Summary

The project MGM+e (Master Geographical Modelling Campus + e) aimed to improve the quality and relevance of education in geographical modelling. The project set up an international intensive workshop to the benefit of over 100 master’ students over 3 years, and developed 8 online freely accessible e-tutorials in geographical modelling. In addition to being advance trainings in niche modelling methods, the workshops were used to cross-fertilize the knowledge of the different partners involved and as a testbed for the e-tutorials in order to overcome the pitfalls of training with remote tools while still embracing the ICT turn and online opportunities. The project relied on the complementarity of 9 Universities in Luxembourg, France, The United Kingdom, Belgium and Switzerland with long expertise in quantitative analysis and modelling in geography who pooled resources, staff and students in the project.

Beyond the direct training ad international mobility gains of the project for the students and staff involved, the online tutorials developed will contribute to the visibility of quantitative geography and geomodelling in Europe and hopefully their wider adoption in research and practice.
