Project Summary

The challenge of this proposal is to identify, elaborate and experiment with a pedagogic process to improve teachers’ competences for their professional initial and continuous development.
The project aims:
A) developing tools for the professional development of teachers using ICT tools, very effective for the management of Creative Classroom,
B) developing, testing and implementing an innovative approach for teachers that promote the development, testing and implementation of innovative practices in the field of education through the Flipped methodology.
C) realising a pedagogical path, articulated in 3 in-depth studies on Creative Classrooms and the Flipped Methodology, directed to the Initial Professional Development (IPD) and the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of secondary school teachers.
Gain Time designs and implements the following activities to realise the intellectual outputs:
O1 “Best learning practices”– will be a comparative study at European level on the best practices of Creative Classrooms (CCRs) in secondary school. The study will deepen also the issue related to educational games as didactic instruments of the ordinary teaching, being pedagogical activities useful for the implementation of CCRs.
O2 “Master model to gain time”, will be an informative and operative tool, with technical, methodological and pedagogical characteristics for secondary school teachers, that alternate studies and analyses (handbook) with thematic tutorials (book trailer) about the Flipped methodology.
O3 “Flip to gain time”, is a distance learning course addressed to secondary school teachers that aims to transfer skills and appropriate techniques to manage creative classrooms with the Flipped methodology and implement this methodology in their own school context regional and national. The online course of the project Gain Time will be the only online course at European level about the Flipped methodology.
The target of the Gain Time’s IO consists of secondary school teachers in Europe. During the whole project at least 1.400 teachers will be reached (minimum 200 per partner Country): they will be able to access the O1 and 02 and reproduce in their classes the experiences of CCR and the educational games sponsored by the project.
It is foreseen that by the end of the project the on line course O3 will be provided to 700 teachers (at least 100 per partner country) who will have completed the online course or will be have been enrolled.
The project will have an impact at local, regional, national and European level: in fact all the intellectual outputs of the project Gain Time will be developed in English and will take advantage of open educational resources to facilitate their use by teachers in Europe, not only in the partner Countries and not only during the lifetime of the project.
The project Flipped responds to the urgency for Europe: to develop professional and pedagogic competences among teachers and trainers enhancing Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) uptake in teaching and learning, through the support of learning and access to open educational resources (OER) in the education and training fields with the aims to combining higher levels of excellence and attractiveness with increased opportunities for all.
FLIPPED wants to help the teachers to revising and strengthening the professional profile and improving the attainment of young people, particularly those at risk of early school leaving and with low basic skills, developing a methodologic especially focusing on the use of ICT.
In line with the Communication from the Commission (SWD (2012) 371 final) ” Rethinking Education: Investing in skills for better socio-economic outcomes”, Flipped aims to develop, test and implement an innovative approach for teachers that promote the development, testing and implementation of innovative practices in the field of education and training.
The project wants to create a new form of learning and providing education and training with open educational resources, focus in better exploitation of the ICT potential, to help the teachers to modify teaching methodologies as the web can offer contents in a more complete, holistic, updated, simple and economic way. Flipped can take advantage of the potential of: online contents (to be studied at home or at work); class activities and laboratories to be customized and socialized.
