Project Summary

“Mathematics is one of the most difficult subjects taught in schools, and good maths education allows to shape a logically thinking EU citizen, drawing accurate conclusions and enabling to make a number of decisions. Improving the quality of education, cooperation of schools and exchange of good practices in the field of mathematics teaching can be a key to the openness of young people to maths. The participation in the project will also allow to improve language competences and overcome barriers resulting from the fear of using a foreign language. The main goal of the project is to develop key competences in the field of mathematics and foreign languages also, to motivate students to learn mathematics and languages to become a comprehensively educated European citizen.
The offer is addressed to mathematics and language teachers as well as students, but also to school leaders and teachers of other subjects who will have the opportunity to exchange experiences with teachers of partner schools. The mobility proposal is addressed to young people aged 15-20. The project will include about 60 students who will go to classes to partner countries and students of the host school, as well as a dozen or so teachers going abroad for training and teachers in partner schools. The project will involve students with pronounced dyscalculia, dyslexia, dysgraphy or other educational or living difficulties. The specific goals of the project directed to the student are: developing mathematical and language competences, passions and joy of learning mathematics, perceiving its practical application in various areas of life and the European economy, developing the ability of logical thinking, analysis and drawing conclusions (through board games and logical games), integration of young people from various European countries, encouraging to overcome language and cultural barriers and encouraging cooperation in international task teams, and helping students with learning difficulties in mathematics through unusual activities or board games.
The specific objectives, assumptions and effects of the project directed at the teacher include: improving the quality of teaching maths and foreign languages by drawing good practices and patterns from partners in order to better use the potential of human skills, improving the teacher’s workshop by acquiring materials, lesson plans, observing solutions and methods teaching mathematics and foreign languages, acquiring knowledge and skills to work with a student with a judgment and motivation to face new challenges.
Offered forms of mobility:
• Five-day trips of 5 teachers to partner schools – the host offers to participate in a training conference, observing math and foreign language lessons, learning about the form and methods of work in his school
• Five-day trips of a group of 10 teenagers and 3 teachers – the host offers the participation of the youth and teachers in lessons and integration classes developing mathematical and language competences, conducted in 2-3 hour blocks, learning the tourist and economic values of the region. The school in Poland will encourage students to learn mathematics and foreign languages by conducting classes based on the plot of the game and using board / logic games for didactic purposes and as an interesting form of spending free time. Partners from Germany plan to show the use of mathematics in the fight for clean air and reduction of gas emissions, to encourage learning mathematics by showing its ubiquity in today’s world and the fight for the environment. In Lithuania, however, they focus on learning maths and foreign languages in combination with physical activities. Each of the partner countries will show how to spice up classes to encourage students to make an effort to learn mathematics and
foreign languages, share their good practices in this area and will be able to watch others do so, to draw good practices to transfer them to their own activities .
The participation of teachers in the project will allow them to diversify their work skills, learn interesting techniques of teaching mathematics and languages, gather materials and outlines, broaden knowledge about the youth work with specific difficulties in learning mathematics and foreign languages. Project’s results will be available on the eTwinning platform. All teachers and pupils at school will also use them after the end of the project. Students will learn how schools operate in the EU, make friends and acquaintances, break down language barriers and develop mathematical competence. We also hope that they will recognize the ubiquity of mathematics in the EU economy and the need for international communication. Schools will enrich the base by purchasing teaching aids, board games and electronic equipment necessary to conduct classes in an interesting and attractive way for students in a modern European school. “
