Project Summary

The main objective of the project is to develop and verify in practice Mathematics EduLarp programme, which will be used for the high schools as a supplement to the teaching mathematics or other STEM disciplines.
Sub – objectives of the project:
– to develop mathematical competence through the innovative Mathematical EduLarp
– to open new ideas and new approach among the community of mathematics education (teachers, teacher educators, and researchers)
– to improve social competencies the educational role-playing game
– to contribute to the pedagogical methodology and prepare the research monography about EduLarps
Within the project we want to cooperate with our foreign partners and use their specific skills in the field of education and mathematics. In the Czech Republic currently, a similar model of incorporation of EduLarps in the field of mathematics doesn´t exist. Together with our partners we want to suggest a unique educational role-playing game in the field of mathematics that will have the desired impact on the target group of high school students.
We will create an educational program Mathematics EduLarp. The development of an educational game is a multi-step creative process of the collaboration of experts from several fields of study. Creating edularp will include an analysis of the curriculum and the soft skills that are the target content of the game. These will be discussed with experts on didactics, teachers and target pupils. Based on the analysis, several scenarios and designs will be created, including game mechanics, story, role, description of props and utilities. In multi-step iterations, individual elements will be combined and tested and their educational impact on the target group will be continuously verified. Upon completion and tuning of the game, software will be programmed, tools and graphics will be produced, and availability of the program for teachers and lecturers will be tested within the workshop.
Process of programme preparation:
Preparation – during the preparation phase we will organize the first transnational meeting and set up the detailed plan how to create the educational programme – Mathematics EduLarp
Creation of the programme
Testing phase – during the testing phase we will introduce the programme to high school students and evaluate the results of the programme.
Correction of the programme – based on the evaluation results we will do the final correction of the programme to eliminate all the mistakes or activities that weren´t useful for the entire process.
There will be at least 200 students per each country involved in the testing phase. At the end of testing phase we will do the final correction of the programme and prepare final EduLarp Kit – methodology, manual for teachers, promo video, application. We will also organize a conference in each participating country for high school teachers, students and experts that are not a part of this project to introduce a programme to them. The impact of our project will be aimed at high school students, teachers and generally at educational system. Students will enhance their mathematical and social competence. Teachers will enhance their competence in interactive teaching and using of suitable learning methods that can improve the level of students´ understanding and help them to acquire mathematical rules and procedures. Universities will also benefit from the development of mathematical competence among high school students. Universities face the problem that there is a significant gap between secondary school and university mathematics and this project can contribute to find ways to bridge the gap.
As soon as the project activities are over, we will have the complex Mathematics EduLarp programme available not only for our use but also for other schools and universities in this kind of programme.
