Project Summary
As Neriman İbrahim Küçükkurt Middle School, in the interest surveys applied to our students by our guidance teachers, 85% of our students did not like numerical lessons and they expressed that dersten was scared and abstract.
We have shown through research that our students have begun their learning life with a prejudice against mathematics because of their abstract characteristic ,characteristic of mathematics and science, the boredom of the teaching methods in the schools, the wrong attitudes of the students of the upper classes or even the fears that parents develop in their own student life .We have come to the conclusion that this negative situation not only affects our students’ success in the course of the lesson, but also causes them to move away from school and even to school abandonment, and in the future, with unemployment.
As Neriman İbrahim Küçükkurt Middle School, by incorporating our students’ games and activities that mathematics can associate with everyday life, using concrete materials that students are actively involved in, where extracurricular activities are often used, we want to live a life of education and training that will enable them to break their fears and prejudices.
In this sense, to determine our shortcomings, correcting mistakes made with different viewpoints, we want to recognize the values of the European Union and to encourage our students to develop positive attitudes towards these values, and most importantly to share experiences with international partners.
We will have a good time in cooperation with our partner, Turkey, Portugal and Latvia, which will provide the highest level of experience sharing of our project. We aim to destroy the predominant math fear and negative prejudice in our students through activities that will be involved in the process on all lines of the project by taking our students out of the classroom with our project.
We aim to be an educational institution that allows our students to improve their math skills by removing the fear and negative prejudice against mathematics and science.
In the process of the project, the students will be planned and organized by the teachers of the three countries; Such as drama, intelligence games, photo contest, math newspaper preparation, cartoon contest, math olympics, oryntring games, so that students will be able to incorporate their maths into daily life by living and enjoying there.
In addition to all the methods and techniques required by the constructivist education system, we aim to break the prejudice and fear that students develop against mathematics lessons by developing appropriate games for their needs. We expect that not only the 30-person group of 6th grade students identified within the scope of the project but all the school students who will be involved in the project activities at the same time will be affected positively as well by this playground and student centered teaching methods and techniques. At the same time, we aim to share our project first with the local and later internationally and even internationally positive effects with our multiplier activities.
