Project Summary
The project Method is born based on a diagnosis of 157 young people between 15 and 23 years-old that are victims of school failure and that on average have flunked two years in the school careers. They are all young people to whom the traditional education system has failed to respond, either in regular education, or professional or vocational education. They are young victims of exclusion, mostly women with low levels of self-esteem. Many have isolation problems, minor offenses and even some have found themselves involved in marginality.
This situation is a reality because of the context of unemployment for which some of their families offer due to unfavorable socio-cultural environment that are arising due to phenomena such as pockets of poverty and marginalization and even the result of weak responses in terms of social protection and action. If we add to these weaknesses the maladjusted and standardized educational process used globally throughout the formal education system, we understand better the starting point that we present.
On the other hand, some of these young people have qualities and skills in leadership, on an artistic level, at social and civic intervention in their communities and also to part of association and are part of volunteer projects.
The school of masses where a teacher teaches at the same time and same place dozens of students was born with the industrial revolution but it has reached the twenty-first century. In two centuries, students changed, society changed and the labor market changed. When will we change the school?
It is studied and validated a young, on average, on the tasks performed on a day-to-day basis, use only 15% to 20% information and content learned in school. The other 80% to 85% is the result of their interactions with their peers, with their environment and society.
Dozens studies have also validated that young people that perform better professionally, on a family and social level are those who increased their academic record with extracurricular activities, where they were involved in the associative movement, and that at some point had have mobility opportunities or were involved in volunteer projects.
The current education system based on the expository method and the simulated experimental method, both are away from the real contexts, both outdated and is unable to prepare, integrate, and empower young people with the diagnosis we presented.
This is how Method wants take the current and propose models of smart inclusion, a new model based Training in Non-Formal Education in Participatory Education and Peer Education (also called Mentoring Pairs) that allows to direct response to NEET young or young victims of successive flunking, allowing them the completion of their academic record or access to a proper training, whether on a professional or vocational level.
On the other hand, the model that we propose is clearly oriented towards educational process, allowing its application immediately, without changes necessary, administrative, legislative or formal, within schools or existing legislation.
The project aims to demonstrate that it is possible, from a multidisciplinary team where youth workers play a central role, articulate in the same educational offer a study program which bases its practice in an educational model based on synergies between the Formal Education and Non-Formal Education with the Participative Pedagogy and Education. Coupled with activities of mobility, youth associations and volunteer projects and in constant interaction with the environment and the community.
This new pedagogical model we intend to validate and publish through a Best Practice Guide is named Participatory Symbolic Pedagogy.
In addition to this process, we intend to establish a Symbolic Participatory Pedagogy Network (SPPNetwork), where education professionals and youth can access simplified educational materials for operationalization and implementation of the methodology we intend to implement.
The physical basis of the SPP network will be the creation of 3 Social Hubs that aim, through a Youth Technical Network, to facilitate the integration of young target project in youth organizations, volunteer projects and Citizen Participation initiatives so that these can train their social skills autonomously preparing its sustainable entry into the labor market.
In parallel with the development of the methodology of SPP, another central objective of the Method Project, involves valuing the profession of Youth Worker.
