METIS – MicroElectronics Training, Industry and Skills at SEMICON Europa
Thursday, November 18 | 10:00 am – 11:30 am
Building a Strong Electronics Talent Pipeline
Electronics, as one of the most R&D-intensive sectors in the world, requires a workforce that can efficiently harness the potential of new technologies, such as edge and cloud computing, AI, next generation connectivity, and advanced sensors. The constant need to increase the flexibility of the talent pool, along with the current gap between the world of work and the world of education, are some of the key challenges for the sector’s competitiveness.
SEMI Europe has multiple initiatives to support skills development in the sector and develop a highly skilled workforce for Europe. To support upskilling and reskilling for the microelectronics sector, SEMI is coordinating the Pact for Skills for the microelectronics sector. In the framework of the Pact, the Skills Partnership for Microelectronics brings together stakeholders from the sector to identify priorities and attract European, national and regional funding. METIS (Microelectronics Training, Industry and Skills), a 4-year project co-funded by Erasmus+ and coordinated by SEMI Europe, brings together industry stakeholders, representatives from top education and training organisations, as well as key European policy makers, to discuss how to develop a robust workforce in such a rapid-paced environment. The results of the METIS Skills Agenda, a large-scale research pinpointing the new skill needs and skill mismatches of the sector, will be presented.
