Project Summary
From October 1, 2016, Szkoła Podstawowa nr 314 im. Przyjaciół Ziemi in Warsaw, Poland implemented the international project ERASMUS + “Mind the SPORT” as part of the KA2 action – cooperation for innovation and exchange of good practices, strategic partnerships – cooperation of schools. The project was co-financed from the European Union funds. We were the main coordinator of the project (Primary school with 999 students in 40 classes), our partners were: Portugal (482 pupils in Primary school: 128 pre-school children aged 3-6, divided into 6 classes and 354 pupils in Primary school in the age group 6-10, divided into 15 classes) and Turkey (Primary school children attended the age group 4-11 years, the school had 18 classrooms attended by 890 students, 43 teachers employed). The project started on October 1, 2016 and ended on September 30, 2018. The main goal of the project was to improve students’ school results through systematic introduction of therapeutic movement methods in grades 0-6 (including Move to Learn and Weronika Sherborne’s method) and the implementation of a series sports activities enriched with ICT. The first goal of the project was to influence the better development of psychophysical and, consequently, improving the results of students achieving below-average results in basic skills. The second goal was to introduce innovative educational methods to work with students in the digital era. We have implemented lots of sports programs, which engaged both the youngest and the oldest students. We directed many proposals related to the physical activity to the students. We have enriched the sports offer, we have raised the coaching skills and competences of the staff through completed trainings. We have strengthened our internal discipline, we have trained personality traits such as conscientiousness, discipline, and the ability to cooperate. By achieving these goals, we have ensured better development for students with school problems. Through sports in ICT we showed students the possibility of using modern technology. We used the Move to Learn method in lessons and Sherborne’s choice. We have introduced systemic changes to the sports offer, while at the same time relying on the natural need of movement in children. We have initiated a long-term process of stimulating the development of brain work. The School Product Database has been created in each of the partner schools. Digital educational tools were created, including instructional videos, sports terminology dictionaries, an exhibition that was a digital base for children’s work done in ICT applications. The training participants received certificates of recognition after a five-day Short Employee Training Program. Intangible results of the project include increasing the psychophysical fitness of students and increasing awareness of the impact of physical activity on psychophysical development. We applied an innovative approach to teaching, increased knowledge about culture, climate, geography of partner countries, exchanged experience in didactic work and took part in school initiatives, we improved the skills of cooperation between teachers at school and between partner schools and positively influenced the quality of educational offer, we have improved the skills of working in a group. Teachers have developed their work technique, created and learned new methods of working with students in their school and teachers in other countries. They realized their passions and learned very useful language and technical skills. Both teachers and students gained additional motivation to work on a foreign language, using it in real situations with colleagues from other countries. We have popularized and introduced innovative proposals to promote physical activities (such as Nordic Walking, outdoor breaks, breaks with dancing, active breaks, use of Xbox mats, promotion of walking with pedometers, cycling with Scribble maps, geocaching, and others). Trained staff apply and disseminate good practices. We are especially proud of the fact that we have managed to influence the students’ awareness of the impact of movement on their development, not only physical but also psychological. We based our research on the positive impact of traffic on academic performance. In the project, we focused in particular on improving the performance of children with poor results, increasing their motivation to strengthen development opportunities and in ICT. All of the results mentioned above apply to all partner schools.
