Project Summary
Partners from five European countries, Italy, Greece, Lithuania, Romania and Spain, the coordinator, coming from common realities, decided to join a two-year Erasmus+ project, divided into 6 stages: Breaking the ice; Knowing and understanding each other; Moving on; Getting deeper and deeper; Friends 4 ever and Learnt and balance. An eTwinning project ID212799, closely connected and supporting the Erasmus+ project, was also created. The schools in our countries situations common to the rest of Europe: students from different nationalities, ethnicities, cultures, intellectual and religions. Sometimes, they are in a disadvantaged position, because of their social, economic and cultural background, clearly seen along this lockdown consequence of the pandemic, when some students didn’t have access to ICTs. These difficult situations bring about dramatic levels of school absenteeism and lack of interest in their studies. As a result, schools need to provide students with conditions and openings that allow them to progress and ease their social integration, while getting the most of that diversity in our schools. More skilful and gifted students are also included in our project.
The partners’schools are placed in diverse European regions with very rich and ancient cultures. This will help us discover not only other cultures, but, maybe, unknown aspects of our own cultures. Students, teachers, parents, school management and local organizations will contribute to our project. Throughout the project, activities, meetings, decisions taken, results, will be actively disseminated on our schools’ web pages, our project blog, eTwinning page, Instagram… We are also responsible for uploading the results in the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform.
Our project has been inspired by the Communication from the Commission to the European Parliament, the Council, the European Economic and Social Committee of the Regions tackling
Early school leaving, as a key contribution to the Europe 2020 Agenda. If we can open our students’minds to Europe and to the European community by getting them to know the European cultural heritage and the peoples who conform and create it, it will be one the best ways to contribute to integration, avoid early school dropout and improve their disadvantaged positions.
Given our schools characteristics, we have set up the objectives as well as the activities of the project closely linked to the priorities selected. These main objectives are: to work hard to avoid absenteeism and early school leaving; to awake awareness of European citizenship; to educate in human values, respect, solidarity and critical thinking; to build pride in our own cultural background while respecting the others’; to broaden students’ and teachers’ horizons and minds; to improve foreign languages skills along with teaching and learning practices.
The activities have been planned and organized as a compendium which will lead us to achieve the project’s objectives while being used to analyse and verify up to what point the project is working out the way it has been designed for both years, always respecting each country’s idiosyncrasy. By means of them we mean to deal with differences to motivate students and teachers and to make feel the whole community part of it. We have divided them in ‘Before-preliminaries to the meetings- During -the meetings- After -the meetings’. The activities have been commonly planned and agreed by all partners, they involve to research, analyse, present, create, entertain, critical thinking. We have designed indoor and outdoor activities and workshops that will give visible and measurable qualitative and quantitative results. All partners will work in parallel applying different approaches to improve basic skills.
Tasks and responsibilities will be equally shared by all partners. We will check that the whole project is being developed and implemented as planned. We are responsible for being sure that the activity plan is progressing as designed, the objectives are being achieved as well as the outcomes, in addition to the dissemination and feasibility of the project. We will control the budget and assist all partners. All of us will be in charge of the management of the eTwinspace.
We consider that this project is just but the tip of an iceberg, of something larger for our schools. Something as large and significant as a European programme can’t just stopped at the end of the two years’ project, it must have a life after that, all those experiences and products must be taken advantage of and enjoyed by other members of our schools communities, cities, regions and colleagues. Ours are not short term but long-lasting objectives. Our intention is to sow the seeds which will contribute to a better European citizenship no matter place of birth, race, language or social status.
