Project Summary

The project „ Młody kreatywny Europejczyk – edukacja ekonomiczna przez działanie”/”Young, creative European citizen – economic education through action” was implemented from October 2015 to the end of September 2017 in three schools – in Poland, the Netherlands and Italy. Its main priority was to enhance the quality of work in listed schools by spreading knowledge of Economics, entrepreneurship, as well as language and cultural competences among students. The projekct was the result of reflection on junior high school curricula that do not take into account the skills and knowledge of Economics and entrepreneurship and do not prepare students practically for the realities of life in this area. The studies carried out by the various institutions demonstrate the importance of these skills in life and show their low levels among students in almost all EU countries. The implementation of economic and entrepreneurship issues, which may be unattractive for students in this age, were enriched by language and cultural context. An additional advantage in this metter was also the mobility of students. The project involved three modules. The first involved learning by students the basic concepts of Economics, for example. taxes, inflation, electronic money. The second module was on economics in daily life, in practice (setting up a bank account, control of the household budget, the benefits and risks of loans, etc.). The third was on the basics of entrepreneurship, for example: students learnt what to be entrepreneurial means, how they can start a business. After each module there was the mobility of students, each time in a different partner school. During these meetings the pupils shared and summed up the results of their project activities, presented and shared the results (e.g. photos, presentations, videos), and participated in joint activities provided for in the project. After each mobility, as a result of working together, the booklets related to the topics of the module were prepared. 60 students in total participated in the project, 20 from each school. Each school took part in 2 short-term exchanges of goups of pupils. In each exchnage 10 students from each sending school and 20 students from the host school took part. In each partner school students worked in two groups of 10 students supported by five teachers (including the coordinator). In addition to the short term exchanges of students there were 3 project meetings attended by 2 teachers from each school participating in the project. School coordinators kept monitoring the implementation of the project activities, every 2 months they contacted with the main coordinator reporting the budget balace and demonstrating the compliance of taken action to the schedule. The teacher from Poland was the main coordinator. As a result of the project a pedagogical innovation on economics and entrepreneurship, was created and published on the Internet. All participants of the project improved their language skills, made international contacts, exchanged their experiences with other participants, developed openness to other cultures and the need for European integration. These increased their own activity, increased their mobility. Participation in the project activities increased the knowledge and skills of students in the field of Economics and entrepreneurship. Higher qualified teachers-participants of the project have and will have an impact on the quality of work of the schools. They encouraged other school staff to learn foreign languages, to introduce and use new teaching methods. They dare other teachers to make use of the opportunities offered by such projects and mobility.
