Project Summary
“Young Enterprising Europeans” is an international partnership project supporting the exchange of good practices between organizations in the field of school education, implemented as a part of Action 2 of the Strategic Partnerships of the Erasmus+ Program of the European Union. Szkoła Podstawowa nr 2 im. Tadeusza Kościuszki w Łecznej was the coordinator of this project. The partner schools were: Osnovna škola Bartola Kašića from Croatia, Junior High School No. 1 in Cholargos from Greece, Osnovna sola Dolenjske Toplice from Slovenia and Scuola secondaria di Primo Grado “G. Carducci” from Italy. The implementation of this project resulted from the diagnosis of needs carried out in the schools participating in the project, both in the form of talks with teachers, students and surveys, which showed that students did not have sufficient knowledge on how to function on the labor market, they did not know the basic principles of entrepreneurship, but at the same time they were aware that this information is needed in life.
The project was approved and highly evaluated in terms of content by experts of the Polish national agency, obtaining 94 out of 100 possible points and was ranked 14th in Poland. The project was implemented from 1 September 2016 to 31 August 2018.
The main goal of the project was to raise the entrepreneurial competence of 250 students aged 13-16 in five organizations participating in the project within 24 months. English was the language of communication between project partners, which also has its logo, designed by one of the students from Croatia and selected as a part of the contest on 20 October 2016 during the first Transnational Project Meeting at the coordinating school.
As a part of the project, 5 short-term exchanges of groups of students were organized along with tutors, during which cooperation between participants from all partner schools was mainly related to the objectives and subject of the project, allowed the exchange of good practices, and improved teamwork, intercultural learning and language skills. Visits at European partner schools enabled students to learn about other nationalities, cultures and customs and helped to establish new relationships and contacts abroad. The first mobility took place on 13-17 May 2017 in Italy. The second visit took place in Croatia on 22-26 IV 2017. The third mobility was organized in Greece on 16-20 October 2017. The fourth meeting took place on 12-16 March 2018 in Slovenia, and the last mobility took place in Poland on 14-18 May 2018.
In addition, two transnational project meetings were planned, in which representatives of the teaching staff of each partner school took part. The first one took place on 19-21 X 2016 at Gimnazjum nr 1 im. Króla Bolesława Chrobrego w Łęcznej (before the change of the Polish education system), and the other one in the Greek partner school from 27 to 29 June 2018.
Every country has different experience in the field of entrepreneurship, that is why we wanted to implement our project as a part of international cooperation. We saw the need to exchange experiences and best practices worked out within years with students. The implementation of the YEE project was aimed at developing joint solutions, effective in developing entrepreneurial skills among students. The project was innovative in nature because the activities planned during its implementation were based on a variety of methods and forms of work, improving business skills, digital and language competences, and an innovative approach to teaching entrepreneurship through a combination of theoretical knowledge and skills. The pupils learned to use the resources of their country to start and run school mini companies, through visits to companies operating locally and regionally, and participating in the workshops conducted there, the students had the opportunity to verify their approach to work. Within two-year cooperation, we achieved, among others, the following results: a guide to good practices in teaching entrepreneurship ‘Young Enterprising Europeans – A Guide’, five school mini companies were created, numerous business games, lesson plans on entrepreneurship education, there was a significant increase in students’ knowledge in the field of entrepreneurship, creativity and assertiveness, students and teachers raised their language and digital skills. In the long-term perspective, the project also has a significant impact, because it increased students’ interest in the future labor market, increased their tolerance to social and cultural differences, increased teachers’ willingness to take new challenges and ventures and the application of effective solutions in teaching, eliminating socio-economic differences of students from disadvantaged backgrounds, expanded the educational offer of schools, increased experience in implementing European Union projects and the possibility of using examples of good practices by other organizations.
