Project Summary

Traffic accidents is a growing health, social and economic problem worldwide. Most road accidents victims occur in low-medium income countries. The goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015, include a goal of halving the number of deaths from road traffic accidents. The sustainable transport system (less congestion, less accidents, and less emissions) will contribute in reducing the climate change.Today, road accidents are the major causes of death and injuries in Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam (ID-MY-VN). EU countries, last decades, steadily and systematically reduced the numbers and severity of road traffic accidents by implementing coordinated multi-sector remedial and preventive solutions in society. Much of this existing knowledge and know-how in EU can be transferred, tailored and implemented in ID-MY-VN, include cost-effective solutions.ID-MY-VN share similar road traffic nature e.g. high volumes of vulnerable road users (pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists), thus they can share largely together knowledge, research and good practices. The project will develop and implement modern master curricula (degree, diploma and specialised courses) in Traffic Safety for students and professionals based on latest EU standards. The planned curricula will be supported with web-based EU-ASIA Network in Traffic Safety, an interactive database and handbook of best practices. The new curricula will be supported with different ICT tools for teaching, learning, training and communication. The developed curricua is also targeting students/professionals who live in more remote towns, or with poor socio-economic backgrounds or with special needs. The developed new/updated curricula will be based on a market analysis and job demands for graduate engineers, and tailored to the traffic characteristics in ID-MY-VN, which will contribute positively in making road traffic in ID-MY-VN safer and more sustainable.
