Project Summary
Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovia are all in the transition process from a centrally planned economy to a democracy with market oriented economy. Today, they face numerous challenges and problems, such as land related problems, rural and agricultura stagnation, air and water pollution, flooding, land slides and other natural hazards. Addressing all these problems needs technical support from a well functioning geodetic infrastructure and geodesy education.Present geodesy education in Western Balkan does not meet the requirements of social economic development. Many geodesy institutions do not have modern equipment to teach new technologies to students. Curricula are not adapted to the new labour market. Teaching methods are often based on teacher-centered old traditions, instead of student-centered active learning. In spite of historical and cultural ties, cooperation and integration in geodesy education is not well established in the Balkans. This Erasmus project aims to address the above issues in order to modernize geodesy education in three Western Balkan countries. The project consortium consists of 3 EU universities, 7 Balkan universities and 2 stakeholder organizations from the public and private sectors. The expected output are:(1) a regional cooperation network helping to improve geodesy education in Western Balkan(2) a new geodesy core curriculum focusing on competences and learning outcomes(3) 7 new geodesy laboratories with state-of-the-art geodetic equipment(4) competence-upgraded teaching staff re-trained through 4 intensive training courses(5) new Problem-Based Learning (PBL) pedagogy introduced to foster active learning(6) Web-based e-learning platform set-up at Balkan universities(7) quality assurance implemented in geodesy education(8) 14 new teaching materials developed
