Project Summary
Unlimited friendship and cooperation in a common Europe.
This basic idea of European identification is symbolized by the “Monument of friendship”, a joint project of the two technical vocational schools in Chrozow / Poland and Limburg / Germany.
The task-based project approach unites creativity and professional competence as well as the main key competencies for social cohesion, international employability and personal development of about 75 pupils as well as a group of teachers from Poland and Germany.
The true to scale statue “Monument of friendship” shows two persons shaking hands as a sign of friendship. As a statue of rusty steel, energized by an electric motor and controllable with a smart-phone, the “Monument of friendship” bears enormous historical symbolism and serves as link between tradition and modernity.
The main objectives of the project are the use of innovative techniques, combined with traditional craftsmanship, an enhanced language competence, an improvement of the individual chances on a global labour market and an increased mobility of labour in a united Europe. The issue of “integration” is strongly focussed by the active participation of young refugees, which can help to reduce prejudice and promote tolerance and diversity.
The direct encounters within the framework of two project weeks, the experience of the culture of the respective project partner, the intensive confrontation with the common past and the creative work in the team had an identity-building and motivating effect.
For both schools, the additional benefit is the further development of the school mission statements and a sharpening of the profiles as European-oriented educational institutions.
As an ambassador for the European idea and the partnership of the two schools, the “Monument of friendship” now visualises the ideals of a united Europe and friendship between Poland and Germany in the centre of Limburg at the Europaplatz.
