Project Summary

Our European project encompasses 5 countries; and in each country, about 10 young people, aged 14 to 18, will be taking part in sustainable developement actions, and be working on the following themes: moving, eating and sharing for a more sustainable world and life.
The project was initiated by the Slovak and French partners whose goal is to share their actions towards sustainable development education with their European partners. What is more, the five countries have the same motivations: they wish to discover the particularities of each country in the four dimensions of the theme (social, economic, environmental and cultural) and to allow their pupils to share their knowledge about the topic, but also their culture, their traditions, as well as to get involved in a common action aiming at protecting and preserving the planet.

In the project, and beyond sustainable developement that will be the landmark of all of our activities, we will be particularly focused on the following topics:
– how important are food, gastronomy and sport in the daily life of each country?
– how important are they for health?
– how can we share our traditions and culture?
– how can we find a common starting point to promote sustainable development together?
Our goal is to better learn the cultural traditions about these topics in the different countries in order to become more active and involved European citizens.

The pupils will have the opportunity to share different topics with other European pupils and to improve their knowledge about each theme.
They will be able to realize how diverse is European gastronomy, to protect its variety and eco-friendly local savoir-faire. Moreover, they will learn about the different kinds of physical activities practiced daily in each country. In that regard, we would like them to understand how important for health are physical exercise and a varied, balanced food.

So this project will allow 36 European pupils to exchange on the previous topics, but also to travel, to discover other cultures and traditions and to practice a foreign language: French for the Italian, Spanish, Slovak and Czech pupils, and English for all students. In this way, we want the pupils to become aware that they can communicate with foreigners and be understood, even if they make a few mistakes. Moreover, we expect them to get better in using computing and new communication technology and to better take into account the social and cultural dimensions of sustainable development. Also, we would like the pupils to get rid of some prejudices and to accept the ones coming from foreigners.

Finally, we expect several final items: an online newspaper, containing articles written by pupils (on Twinspace), a book of recipes, and a “guide for a balanced life and a more sustainable world”, with many tips and good practices regarding the decrease in waste, the preservation of the environment and one’s health. This guide will be carried out throughout the two years of the project, thanks to shared experiences; then it will be shared and experimented at the end of the project.
These final items will be created via E-twinning, a platform that will allow pupils from the five countries to exchange many documents on the different topics; these will change every two months. Before that, the platform will allow the young people to get to know each other, to imagine a common logo for the project, and to share the traditions about each country.

Furthermore, other activities will take place on several meetings that the five countries will attend.
In France, the young people will have the opportunity to prepare a meal with no garbage at all, to organise another meal with the recipes of the different countries, to take part in a walk while picking up garbage or to visit the International House of Gastronomy and the Confluence
eco-friendly area in Lyon.
In Italy, the pupils will be able to carry out a typical recipe of Naples region, using food bought on a market, and to visit a wine cellar.
In Spain, they will be lucky enough to prepare a biological garden and to visit a farm and an artisanal cheese factory.
In Slovakia, they will have the opportunity to practice winter sports, such as skiing, sledding, skating or ice-hockey.
In Czech Republic, they will go hiking in the typical landscape of the country and discover the Easter cooking specialities.

Finally, during a last night, the pupils will prepare a meal, using the recipes they worked on throughout the project. They will eat with their teachers and some parents, invited on this special occasion.
