Project Summary

Multilocality is a way of life in which people divide their active daily lives among several localities (e.g., city/rural region or place of residence/job or education). Often, this phase is a precursor to actually moving away (migration), which can lead to a significant loss of education (brain drain), especially in rural areas. In the field of regional development and adult education, multilocality has been perceived as a future trend for some time, yet adult education and training opportunities in this context are scarce.

For this reason, in 2019 the partner organizations decided to submit the project “Multilocality – Opportunity for Adult Education Offerings (MChance)” to jointly discuss what contribution adult education can make to the trend of multilocality. The partner organizations and the project staff should be enabled in the project to be able to develop high-quality education and training offers for adults (citizens in rural areas) in this regard in the future.

The objectives in the project were as follows:
I) The competences of the partner organizations and project staff are strengthened in order to develop needs-oriented educational offers and to derive conclusions for adult education.
II) Best practice approaches and methods on the topic of multilocality are researched, documented, evaluated and exchanged.
III) A network of actors interested in the topic will be established.

In order to achieve the project goals, it was important for the partner organizations to involve multilocals themselves in the project activities from the very beginning. For this purpose, the concerns and wishes of the multilocally living were recorded through qualitative interviews (5 interviews per partner) and summarized in the form of digital stories (1 video per partner). In addition, best practices were researched across the partner countries and also EU-wide, jointly discussed, evaluated and prepared in a best practice catalog. To ensure a substantial exchange of good practices, three (virtual) project meetings were held to derive and reflect on competencies and future fields of action for the project staff, partner organizations and adult education in general from the interviews, digital stories and best practices. The meetings also took into account the state of the art in science and research by inviting experts and speakers to the meetings to present and discuss their current research results. All project results are available in German, English and Polish.

The specific results of the project are as follows:
– 15 qualitative interviews
– 3 digital storytelling videos
– 1 best practice catalog
– Derived competencies or opportunities for action for project staff, partner organizations and adult education in general.
