Project Summary

MUSIC FOR LIFE / MUSIC 4 LIFE is a Youth Initiative, with a marked social character, driven by our group of young music students. The young people want to consolidate and improve our musical skills, as well as training in the field of music therapy to go to different centers and residences of our cities to share, in our social commitment, the new skills acquired and our musical talent with people who by their situation – elders, or people with different capacities – will benefit from the therapeutic nature of the music. This will generate a new welfare situation in all the people involved in this project, developing new skills and civic skills. All this will allow us to promote equality, social cohesion and exercise active citizenship.

In this Youth Initiative we participated 30 young people between 18-30 years old of three nationalities, Spaniards from the city of Zaragoza, Italians from the Veneto region and Bulgarians from the Ivaylovgrad area. All of us are students or graduates in musical studies and we want to share in a first place sharing of musical art and its therapeutic properties with our community. In addition, we will achieve several results, not only in our technical and personal skills, but it is expected to have a beneficial impact on broad social groups:
Thus, the fundamental objectives of our youth initiative are:
The main activities will be two at the transnational level: The first will be held in March 2018 in Spain, in the city of Zaragoza. It is a joint training activity that will be attended by all three groups. This first meeting has the clear objective of offering young participants and their trainers the basic tools in music therapy techniques; non-formal learning oriented to the introduction of this technique in the later concerts.

Subsequently the trials and preparation in the music therapy tools will be carried out, to perform at least 5 concerts in different residences and associations of the target groups in each of the three countries. (Total of 15 therapeutic concerts).

The second transnational meeting will be held at the end of the project, during the month of December 2018. It will also be held in Spain, in the city of Zaragoza. It is the Final Concert (final multiplier event) in which the young musicians of the three countries will have the opportunity to play together in a social and solidarity concert. In addition, this music-therapy concert will provide us with the opportunity not only to put into practice all the non-formal learning acquired during this social entrepreneurship initiative, but also to ensure maximum dissemination of M4L results among the most vulnerable groups, the target population and decision-makers and political representatives, since all of them will be invited to participate in this great event.

The results and the expected impact in the PARTICIPANTS will be the improvement of the competences the change of attitudes, improvement of learning processes, besides the creation of a network of transnational links with other young people. With regard to the ORGANIZATIONS involved, there is a need to improve management and organization, as well as pedagogical practices in the field of youth, as well as the consolidation of a network of synergies with related entities. In addition to the visibility of their activities. Last, but not least, are the repercussions on the TARGET GROUPS, in which we include other young people and the groups of elderly of the different residences or associations. In which they are expected to participate as recipients of music therapy concerts and receive all the benefits of this methodology in terms of overcoming personal barriers, improve their mood, perceive the concern of our group of young people, as well as other improvements at the cognitive and psychic level.
Likewise, all the results are permanently expected to last for all the agents involved in the project. And a manual of good practices will be realized, that along with the Infome Final will be spread by different channels, so that anyone interested can make use of it. In addition, young people will continue to sporadically perform concerts for social purposes. They are even expected to have an opportunity for youth entrepreneurs to use this experience to undertake, with therapeutic concerts being a new form of social entrepreneurship.
