Project Summary
The partners in this project proposal would like to develop a more inclusive society, by breaking down barriers through musical activities, and by developing an European dimension of the project activities and in the participating schools. In the feasibility study, the partner schools underlined that, most of the time, girls do not go further with their musical careers because of some inhibitory attitudes of their families, for example: despite their talents, or their attitude to be more serious in the approach to musical discipline, even in the world of music, boys and girls are not equally considered. In addition many students have not equal opportunities because of social and economic problems which impede them to directly participate to their school activities. The participating schools have then decided to start a collaboration in order to share information, exchanges and points of view which could favor the building of a more inclusive society, at local and at European levels. In this vision the opportunity to use music, as one of the strategic environmental factors for creating spaces in favor of diversity, is strongly supported by the specificity of the discipline which offers a symbolic and relational space conducive to the activation of cooperation and socialization, the acquisition of knowledge tools, as well as the interaction between different cultures.
The project implementation will be developed in two years activities through:
– online activities which involve students to exchange music and songs to be played together during the mobilities, which will be focused on four topics (access for disadvantaged, gender equality, equal opportunities and inclusion and equity); online schools and teachers’ exchanges to organize and plan activities and to constantly relate about the achieved results, the surveys to be elaborated for the monitoring process and the methods to be implemented in each school for a more inclusive educational program
– in presence activities which will see the implementation of music and foreign languages courses for students: these courses will be preparatory for the mobilities mobility weeks and to favor a more fluid communication with the partner school mates. The other activity to be done in presence is the preparation of the final concerts during the four mobilities
These methods will favor a constant exchange and a constant collaboration between the schools and the involved learners.
The project beneficiaries are students aged between 12 and 13 years old, for a total of 56 who will directly participate to the short terms mobility weeks. These students will be accompanied by teachers in the abroad activities. A Quality Team, made of teachers, under the supervision of the Italian leading partner, IC of Fontanafredda Rita Levi – Montalcini, will be formed by teachers who will be in charge of the monitoring and the evaluating processes: this Team will elaborate surveys and data on how the project is implemented, if there will be any adjustments to be developed, if the expected results are achieved. The ICT Team formed by teachers with expertise in the use of modern technologies, under the supervision of the Spanish school,
IES Afonso X O Sabio, will be in charge of the project Disseminating Plan: through the use of the modern technologies, the ICT Team will give the right visibility to the project and it will give the opportunity to a wider public to verify directly how the project implementation is going.
Students’ families will participate in various activities and they will give their direct support during the mobilities.
This project will have a positive impact in the teaching and learning methods and programs: teachers will learn each other to favor a more inclusive society through activities which can involve also students who are normally excluded; students will have the chance to relate with other cultures, by improving their relational attitudes and by entering into direct contact with a different culture which will stimulate their sense of pertaining to a more enlarged group.
Music, as instrument to be used for the project implementation, stimulates sensory learning, self – esteem and the feeling in the involved students of being part of the same group. It also enhances the process of social inclusion: it is an universal language which can transmit positive messages and which can, through its learning, break down barriers linked with social or cultural clichés. Through music activities, the students involved are more free to express themselves, the sense of pertaining to a group activity is raised, the students are more opened to new stimulus without taking into account diversities and differences which could impede fluid relations with their school mates.
This project initiative, if funded, will:
– increase the students’ competencies in foreign languages, by breaking down communicative barriers
– enhance the sense of independence, by making them responsible
