Project Summary
Project Mystery of History was created out of necessity for modernization of teaching and cooperation on the international level. Subject of the project was historical and natural heritage which fitted perfectly into a successful eTwinning project Little curators which was created and implemented by teachers of branch school Kučine. Children often find historical content boring, but this project has shown that this does not have to be the case. The aim of the project was to raise the teachers’ qualities by enhancing their competences by exchanging praxis and work methodologies and creating a motivating school environment for students.
No.of participants: around 1500
The project included the children from 7 to 11 years old. The idea to involve bordering countries has proven to be excellent. All participants were highly motivated to familiarize themselves with neighbouring countries. Project partners were two Italian schools, one from Ferrara and one from Piacenza, one from Slovenia,Ptuj and two from Croatia,Solin and Primorski Dolac.
Project lasted for 19 months(from Sept.2017 to Mar.2019).
Project was done in three phases. Through field work and on three chosen historical and natural sites, students got to know and explore historical, cultural and natural heritage of their homeland. It was a research teaching with lots of practical work and critical thinking. After each phase, materials were created which were used for creating digital contents which were posted on the web and were available to all participants and more.
All the planned activities were successfully realized which is visible on the web page. Some of the ideas emerged spontaneously and they fitted in the project perfectly. One of these activities is familiarizing with the legends of the participant countries which resulted in visible products(picture book of legends)and expanded on eTwinning through the project Mystery of History in legends.
Let’s play and learn is an activity which was realized on historical and natural sites of participant countries.Students actively studied about the past of their country through carefully deigned activities. They learned about the history of neighbouring countries through exchange of materials on the web.
The 21st century kid has proven to be excellent because students could work on project activities through extracurricular activities and together with their teachers enhance their ICT competence.
Let the art take part–highly motivated students were very creative.Teachers from Croatia,Italy and Slovenia sent children’s artworks to each other which were later used as a part of dissemination activities of the project and were exhibited on Museum Night at each participant.
Think and blink–numerous educational crosswords, rebuses and labyrinths were created and posted on the web.
Choose the news–after each field trip, students wrote reports about it and posted it on the web. They made interviews with the experts in the field of archaeology.
Take part in Museums night–art exhibitions in the Museum Night in ’18 and ’19 very successfully realized. In the Archaeological museum in Solin,in 2019,the film about the Mystery of History project was shown. All partners were very pleased with the attendance.
Celebrations–by celebrating Europe Day and Erasmus Day,students got to know the European countries and learned some interesting facts about them.At the end of the project,on the 3rd TPM,the final celebration and an exhibition of artworks of all participants were held in Primorski Dolac.
Evaluation was implemented periodically, during the whole project with every participant and positive effects can be seen.Surveys, exams, evaluation questionnaires, web 2.0tools questionnaires, questionnaires on the quality of the workshops were used.Dissemination was often conducted and it is going to be conducted after the end of the project.
The aim was to raise awareness of the necessity of the use of ICT in the education of young people, and it has been achieved.
Three transnational meetings were realized very successfully.
First meeting was held in Solin(Croatia),second in Ptuj(Slovenia) and the third in Primorski Dolac(Croatia).
As a result of the project, numerous educational ICT materials were produced:PPT,videos, albums, quizzes, flipbook, web page https://sites.google.com/view/mysteryofhistory ,artwork, bookmarks, calendars, memory.
Results are visible in all fields.Language and digital competences improved at with participants, motivation raised considerably, teachers modernized the lessons, cooperation of schools with local communities improved, parents were more included in the school life.Teachers acquired competences which will help them in future planning and organization of new projects.
All the education material will be available after the end of the project.
Future activities are being planned and they will mostly be directed to the exchange of praxis among teachers of all countries.
Collaboration with the partners will proceed in the future.
