Project Summary
The European Union’s strategy is to minimize the problem of early school leaving. Failure is one of the main reasons why young people drop out of school. The subject of the Never Give Up project is one of the European Union’s priorities, but above all it is a response to the needs and specificity of our students’ environment. It promotes the idea of lifelong learning, encourages development, supports students from disadvantaged backgrounds and promotes sports and artistic education, dates back to tradition and cultural heritage.
Eight schools from six countries cooperated in the project: Poland, Romania, Cyprus, Portugal, Italy and Turkey. The project included activities focused around artistic and sports subjects. The project aimed to make students with less educational opportunities, for whom the school is the only educational and cultural center, be involved, find their place in the school community, discover talents, be motivated to learn foreign languages and other subjects, which will directly affect their development, socialization, self-esteem, and success.
The target group were students of older primary school classes (mainly grades 6-8), while due to the nature of the project activities, the whole school communities benefited. Direct participants of the project, who participated in mobility and extracurricular activities, were primarily students with smaller educational opportunities, from incomplete families, from dysfunctional families, and socially withdrawn students. As part of the project, 152 mobility took place, including 63 teacher mobility and 89 student mobility. Over one hundred teachers from all partner schools were involved in the project activities.
Together with our partners we have planned tasks to maximize the effectiveness of teaching, involve students with fewer opportunities and increase the attractiveness of our educational offer. We have taken a number of actions at schools, students took part in art competitions and exhibitions, artistic workshops (art, traditional handicrafts, music workshops, theater workshops), we created music groups and theater groups. During sports activities, we discovered traditional sports games of our partner countries. The project language was English. Therefore students and teachers improved their language skills. The fruit of cooperation between the partner schools was an exhibition of artistic works and a brochure containing the students’ works with descriptions of the authors of the works, a DVD with music recordings, performances of music bands at the school in Mazzarino (Italy), theatrical performances in English during the meeting in Gorzów Wlkp. (Poland) , international workshop of traditional handicrafts and sports games in Pascani (Romania). Jointly developed materials such as the handicraft catalog and the catalog of sports games were promoted in schools and local institutions. In each partner school there were meetings for parents, conferences and workshops on the role of the family in the child’s life. The project was also promoted in local media, during conferences and information meetings on the Erasmus + program. Thanks to the project, the school began to be regarded as a place of interesting meetings, in the local environment, by students, parents and institutions, promoting cooperation, development and strengthening the child’s potential.
