Project Summary

The NE(W)AVE – reNEWAble e-Vet lEarning project responded to 3 main priorities: * Social inclusion * Developing VET business partnerships aimed at promoting
work-based learning in all its forms *Introducing systematic approaches to, & opportunities for the initial and continuous professional development of VET teachers, trainers and mentors in both school and work-based settings. NE(W)AVE answered to the main need to revise & upgrade skills of VET learners, NEETS and professionals to promote occupation in the renewable energy sector. The EU 2020 Strategy is going to convert our economic system towards a resource-efficient, low-carbon economy and the green economy represents one of the key strategic domains for employability and economic growth. This transition will lead to a progressive redefinition of jobs across all sectors involved and redefinition of technical and soft skills. The NE(W)AVE partnership, creating a business VET partnership composed by VET Providers, Non-profit and Companies from Italy, Austria, Denmark, Greece and Spain shared a common recognition of these increasing needs and the belief that innovative short, tailor-made
courses could aim to “recycle” technical + mechanical skills whilst developing transversal ones. After a verified close collaboration, a trustful geographically balanced network was developed.

Agreed objectives and tasks distribution led to the development of NE(W)AVE, which aimed to:
– contribute to increase the employability and inclusion of NEETs + VET learners developing VET business partnerships in the renewable energy field based on work-based learning;
– upgrade the professional opportunities of young workers in the field by aligning their competences to specific ones required into the mentioned sector promoting VET;
– promote innovative learning opportunities in VET developing, testing, adapting & implementing a NE(W)AVE Open Online Course (OOC) on renewable energy, aimed to revise existing technical skills together with the development of transversal + soft skills;
– support VET trainers’ & mentors professional development offering an E-toolkit based on brand new training material and scheme.

Pursuing those objectives, NE(W)AVE promoted European cooperation and exchange to improve VET offers related to renewable energy skills using an inclusive/cross-sectoral approach and building strong partnerships between education and employment. The following Intellectual Outputs have been produced:
– IO1 Research on skills needed for jobs related to renewable energy https://newaveproject.eu/media/newave-io1-overall-report-en.pdf resulted from Desk and in-field research involving green companies and VET providers in each country (which in total engaged 50 VET providers + 50 enterprises). The Overall report in languages EN, EL, ES, DE + DK, include countries findings, identification of skills mismatch and existing VET offers in the sector;
– IO2 OOC for VET learners https://newaveproject.eu/course/ in EN, EL, ES + DE developed through a shared, cross-sectoral and inclusive process, piloted also including work-based mobility experience, it consisted of 4 main units: introduction; soft skills; technical skills; learning & job opportunities. EQF level 4 for 2 trades (electricians + plumbers). Addressed to TG1 VET learners/NEETs and young professionals who are completing or have completed VET pathways in the field of mechanics, plumbers, industry technician/operator, electric & heating installer, electronic/mechatronic technician, etc. Piloted by 24 learners;
– IO3 E-toolkit for VET Trainers https://newaveproject.eu/media/newave-io3-toolkit-en.pdf a training tool in all partners’ languages addressed to TG2 VET trainers, which integrates IO2 in order to allow the transfer of project’s approach, methodologies and content effectively. IO3 also included the Mini Course on Mobility Management for Mentors https://newaveproject.eu/media/newave-io3-corso-en.pdf available in EN, EL, ES, DE + DK;
– IO4 Policy Recommendations https://newaveproject.eu/media/newave-io4-en.pdf, available in EN, EL, ES, DE + DK, addressed to policy makers & stakeholders in the field of VET and renewable energies (TG3), it exploits project results and highlights the impact of the IOs as a starting point for future cooperation and closer synergies between VET providers/No-profit &Companies (in the renewable energy field).

NE(W)AVE was innovative in terms of its implementation methodology and product development. It promoted an inclusive approach, involving a variety of actors in a multiplicity of actions interconnected and complementary to each other. The project combined: formal + non formal learning, blended mobility and e-learning characterised by people-centred approach. All the results and outputs will continue to be offered beyond the project lifetime and thanks to their transferability potential will continue to be used by interested learners, VET providers, trainers, policy makers & stakeholders.
