Project Summary

Through the project “Capoeira connects” the participating associations and members were able to coordinate better among themselves and gain insights into the association’s work and actively participate as actors. This was successfully implemented with the help and structuring of the coordinators, mostly adults. We were unable to guarantee the participation of all participants from start to finish, because during the project period the pandemic stood in our way, which forced us to cancel many more events. Having Brazil as a non-EU country in the project was something very special and as a Capoeira practitioner visiting Brazil is a must. The fact that this event could not take place despite several postponements was the biggest disappointment for all participants, also for the Brazilian members.

The restrictive measures were a major obstacle during the project period, which we felt clearly at the beginning. Through measures such as the video for the “Toilet paper challenge”, online courses of all participating countries (training, music lessons, language lessons, etc.) we were able to actively counteract this and thus take a further step towards networking despite the limitations. The young people have made a good contribution to the project and have initiated various projects which we will continue in the future. This includes training as a Capoeira trainer. Through the young people’s perspective, we were able to gather initial ideas and create a basis on which to build in the future.
The biggest challenge was, in addition to the pandemic and activities that were not carried out as a result, the language barrier that we were only able to partially implement despite language courses such as English and Portuguese. Through social media such as Whatsapp, Zoom, etc., we were able to bridge geographical distances and exchange information, ideas, photos and videos in a timely manner.
In summary, the project was a complete success, which is also reflected in the successful participation in competitions (ASKÖ, Youth Competition FL). The feedback from the participants was more than positive and all members would like to carry out such projects again in the future. In the long term, the association structures have become much more and better networked and will certainly be continuously expanded in the future.
