Project Summary

The requested project is to be carried out jointly by the Gymnasium Querfurt (Germany) and the Lycee Beauregard Chateau-Renault (France). The starting point for this project is the person of Saint Martin, Bishop of Tours. He is on the one hand the patron saint of the whole of France and has a Europe-wide charisma. He is still honored in many countries in many ways, e.g. through the Martinstag, the Martinusweg as a pilgrimage and other traditions. As part of the project, the students will investigate these traditions and legends more closely and discover similarities and differences in the traditional traditions of their respective countries as well as their cross-national common (and religious) roots. Saint Martin is also in the Catholic Church for tolerance and helpfulness, two essential and European values.
A total of 5 learning activities are planned as a short-term exchange (3 in Chateau-Renault and 2 in Querfurt), which are complemented and accompanied by a total of 3 project management meetings, financed from the project management and project implementation budget.
It should also be clarified in original places of his work, whether St. Martin is rightfully a moral role model or most statements about him are only legends. This project also aims to increase the motivation of students to learn foreign languages. In today’s fast-changing world, language skills and creativity that are ready to use are central to personal development and participation in civil and social life. The students will apply their skills in real conversational situations, communicate with native speakers and experience the practical benefits of their knowledge acquired in the classroom. Their language skills will be consolidated and further developed. In addition, the creation of documentary films, a (also digital) project brochure, a play, a survey with evaluation and a discussion round should stimulate the development of bilingual teaching options and also expand media skills.
In addition to the development of partnerships between our educational institutions, the students (and, of course, the participating teachers) also experience and experience more about the countries whose language they are learning by establishing personal contacts. This reduces prejudices, develops intercultural and social skills and thus promotes tolerant cooperation. In addition, dealing with common cultural and religious roots in Europe contributes to feeling more “European” in the future without blurring national differences.
The teachers involved in the project will deepen their previous cultural and linguistic knowledge, expand their methodological-didactic skills and receive suggestions for future school program work. The insight into other educational systems may also give them a change of perspective on teaching, which could be used innovatively for the further design of their own teaching activities.
Our grammar school is currently working on a new school program. A necessary profiling of intercultural cooperation and methodological innovation will most likely include the goal of becoming a European school within a reasonable period of time. This will make participation in the Erasmus + program an important building block for our future school development.
The project will involve 10 students from grades 9-11 and 2 teachers from each institution. In principle, a partial exchange is possible, in principle, due to the successive project program most students and the main responsible teachers to carry out or accompany the entire project. The selection of students is carried out according to a yet to be determined evaluation key, in the foreign language skills, school commitment and social aspects will be incorporated. The project implementation includes joint instruction, internet and on-site research, interviews and interviews. The project results will be presented in both schools and project locations in detailed, partly public and high-quality presentations. The already mentioned main products and results can be used in the classroom or used in libraries or Internet portals as a source of information and argumentation. Thus, a longer-term and sustainable use is potentially possible.
