Project Summary
Combating unemployment is one of the main priorities in social and economic policy of the European Union. Unemployment is an important economic factor for any country; youth unemployment is often examined separately because it tends always to be higher than unemployment in older age groups. Professional musicians are in a risk group for unemployment, because there are many challenges, including problems of social guarantees, intensive schedules, regular trips and non-regularity of income. Young musicians will face most of these problems doing their first steps in a job market.
So, young musicians need complex activities for strengthening their position in the labour market in a near future – they need knowledge in management and business, competitive professional level, social and intercultural competences, new contacts and information sources. From the other hand VET institutions need support in methodology for non-formal education, need new management programme, which could be used as facultative, need information source for informing young musicians in fast and effective way.
For addressing needs of the target group the partnership is setting up the following objectives:
– to strengthen young musicians’ capacity in a labour market in a long term;
– to introduce innovative learning programme in music management and new methodological material in non-formal learning;
– to organize various training events for VET learners (young musicians) and staff (teachers, trainers, experts in a music field);
– to introduce and to maintain Internet portal for young musicians’ access for labour market and entrepreneurial activities;
– to provide international communication skills to music VET learners for better integration into multicultural musical environment.
The target group of the project is VET (schools and colleges) learners in the field of music from the age 14 till the age 24. The project partners come from the following EU countries: Latvia, Estonia, Sweden, and Poland. Latvia, Poland and Estonia come from the same geographic region (Eastern Europe), Sweden being their Nordic neighbour. Thus, different geographic regions of EU will provide cultural and geographic diversity to the project. The project will be realized during 3-year period – from September 2019 till August 2022.
Expected project results will be the following:
– proposed innovative learning programme in music management for VET learners (O1) is developed, tested and used successfully by VET institutions;
– improved professional capacity of VET learners (approx.250) during training events and by using innovative non-formal learning methodology;
– improved capacity of VET staff to elaborate and to use produced intellectual outputs in the future;
-unique non-formal learning methodology (O3) is developed and used successfully by VET institutions;
-unique IT portal for young musicians www.openyourmusic.eu (O2) is developed and used successfully by VET learners and institutions, and other interested persons or organizations (approx.300 users at the end of the project);
– key competences of learners are improved during various trainings and due to using of intellectual outputs: entrepreneurship competence, digital competence, personal, social and learning to learn competence, multilingual competence, cultural awareness and expression competence;
– employment potential of young musicians is strengthened by activities in the IT portal and by participation in two Musicians’ Contact Fairs.
All produced intellectual outputs will give long term impact on the target group, VET institutional changes and economic development in a whole. Methodology material in non-formal learning could be used in all art and music VET institutions. The content of learning programme in music management can be adopted for any country. IT portal for young musicians will not contain any geographical restrictions for registration and activities, so project partners would like to see users from various countries in a near future.
