Project Summary

OPEN STUDENTS’ AND TEACHERS’ MINDS TO THE DIGITAL WORLD is a strategic partnership project between 5 general and technical secondary schools in Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal. Its main aim is supporting each partners’ digitisation process through international cooperation to foster Digital Citizenship Education in students. The project lasts 24 months and focuses on digital learning and teaching. The project language is English.
The main objectives are:
– Fostering digital citizenship education in students
– Exchanging best practices to foster digital learning
– Collaborating to support participating school’s digitisation process
– Providing opportunities for participants to improve other personal and professional skills
– Promoting European identity and collaboration
The project partner schools are 5 general and technical secondary schools from different European countries. OBERSCHULZENTRUM MALS (South Tyrol/Italy), ZESPOL SZKOL TECHNICZNYCH (Poland), VERENIGING CVO FARELCOLLEGE (Netherlands), IES PUNTA DEL VERDE (Spain) and AGRUPAMENTO DE ESCOLAS ABADE DE BAÇAL (Portugal).
Twenty 15-18 year old students as well as up to 14 teachers from each partner school participate in the various mobilities.
Planned activities and use of methodology:
The project is based on a combination of physical and virtual activities. There will be 2 teacher and 5 student mobilities and several eTwinning activities to intensify cooperation and increase the benefits of the whole project. All teacher mobilities last three days during which participants visit the hosting school, do job shadowing, participate in best practice exchanges and get practically acquainted with some of the hosting school’s ICT tools and digital teaching methodology. Additionally, these mobilities also provide opportunities to jointly reflect on each school’s digitisation process, get to know the digital competence model of the DigCompOrg framework, plan and evaluate its implementation in each school and create a supporting network among partners. All student mobilities last 3 days and aim at increasing their digital competence. Each mobility focuses on different areas of digital learning ranging from supporting personalised learning, professional development and promoting intercultural learning through digital media to learning about the threats of digital learning and becoming a European citizen through digital learning. These topics were chosen to allow each partner to bring in their already gained expertise. Students will also learn to use various ICT tools and create a number of assignments. The project’s main communication tool is the project Twinspace which is continuously updated.
The main expected results are:
– A website with all mobility assignments with the motto “tips and tricks for digitising learning“,
– A best practice exchange esp. regarding blended learning, technical solutions for digital learning, digital storytelling, various ICT tools and how to include them in class,
– Students’ expertise in the use of ICT tools like flipsnack, WordPress, bookcreator, HP Reveal App, Actionbound App, Popplet, etc. for personal learning ,
– Further development of partner schools’ digitisation through the implementation of the DigCompOrg framework,
– A long-term international support network among partners regarding the continuation of each school’s digitisation and other relevant educational topics in the future to create synergies and search for joint international solutions,
– The development of digital, language and other personal/professional skills in all participants,
– An extensive project documentation on TwinSpace which will be shared with non-participants upon project termination,
– An increased activity on eTwinning in all project school communities to provide more regular occasions to meet other Europeans and to facilitate international collaboration;
Envisaged impact and longer-term benefits:
All partners regard this partnership as a unique chance to learn from each other and all believe that when it comes to the promotion of digital citizenship education, national solutions and didactic and methodological best practices also work and are adaptable on an international level. Therefore all partners expect to create synergies in their digitisation process. All partners also see this project as a vital aid to systemise their schools’ digitisation to make their teaching and educational offer more sustainable and help fostering their students’ digital competence. Furthermore this project aims at bringing together students and teachers from various European countries to enable them to experience Europe hands-on, to promote closer relationships among Europeans with different languages and cultures and to increase awareness and open-mindedness to the importance and benefits of the EU in times of Brexit. The participation in this project will also support the development of students’ English and other personal/professional skills.
