Project Summary

The project titled “Our Common Fundament: European Values“ enables participating staff and students to gain an insight into common values shared by our countries, the evolution of these values, and the meaning ot these values for the individual citizen, society , and the European community as a whole. In this we intend to counteract rising protectionist and nationalist tendencies in member countries. Participants will realize that the implementation of these values has not been completed but requires a continuous struggle to which they can, and must, contribute their share – considering at the same time the need for compromise in the face of diverging interests and aims. Dealing with the immaterial and material cultural heritage showing both common values and and national idiosyncrasies serves as a means to point out to the students the everyday reality behind the more abstract values. The aim in this lies in the creation of a common identity and the experience of the diversity of cultures in the participating countries as a form of personal enrichment.
Becoming acquainted with a variety of national and regional characteristics such as traditions and aspects of cultural heritage in the partner countries the foreign language and cultural competence of the participants will be enhanced. Digital media and programmes such as Kahoot, Google maps or eTwinning will be used to elaborate and present project results. An overall target can be seen in enhanced competence concerning action and interaction of students, such as foreign language skills, the use of digital media, the sharing and understanding of different perspectives and attitudes, the dealing with conflict situations, the use of compromise , and the art of debating. The use of simulation games can play a central role in this.
Partner institutions will be high schools/grammar schools in the following 4 countries: Spain, Denmark, Croatia, and Germany – all of which have gained experience in other international projects or exchange programmes, but now for the first time intend to cooperate in a Strategic School Partnership. All project meetings will follow a similar structure: Each meeting will focus on specific content, i.e. each host country will be allotted a specific set of values and a historic epoch. In addition to the students travelling to meetings at least one further class of each partner school will be involved. The meetings will be made up of 30 students ( 15 foreign guest and 15 host students) and ca 10 staff ( 6 guests and a minimum of 4 from the host school).
This means a total of ca 300 students will be involved, with an average of 25 per teacher; from this total the students who will travel to the meetings will be chosen according to aptitude .
The wide dissemination of materials and results will be enabled through eTwinning to further use by the project classes in the times between meetings. Interactive apps will further the direct acquisition of project meeting results. A long-term cooperation with all partner schools is intended, with measure including eTwinning projects, bilateral exchanges, participation in an international UN simulation, or in a further KA2 project.
