Project Summary
In view of the present democratic crisis that impact lot of european countries (rise of populism, loss of confidence in political action, young people’s lack of interest in political life) and the crisis of trust in traditionnel media information (reconsideration of the value of information, growth of new media practices on internet, fake news) , the development of participatory media that supports local development initiatives and increase local and global citizenship appears to be a great opportunity to renew democratic participation in Europe and reinforce social cohesion.
For young people, participatory media are a great way to promote image-related education and a gateway to a better understanding of the digital world they live in.
With these facts in mind, the project “participatory media for young europeans” supported by 3 structures specialised in participatory media and accompaniment of young people in France, Belgium and Italy has the aim goal of building a new training framework for young people and their educators and to swarm participatory media around european countries.
This project will take place over 26 months and will propose learning activities on participatory methods and audiovisual technics for young people and their educators that lead to the production of videos that will show their representations of their towns and their visions of european citizenship (C1, C2, C3).
At the same time, pedagogical contents will be created (O1) and published (E1, E2, E3) in order to spread the methods and technics of the participatory media.
This training courses will be tested by the educators during training activities (C4,C5). The whole training framework will be promote during the 3 simultaneous multiplier events (E4, E5, E6) broadcasted live on internet.
This project, supported by Anonymal in partnership with « l’Association de soutien aux jeunes en milieu ouvert » in Belgium and the Officina, a cultural association based in Perugia, Italy, will involve 8 young people with social and / or cultural difficulties and 5 youth educators per country (24 to 72 young people and 15 to 30 educators, participants may change during the 26 months long).
This project aims to create a citizen media in Italy and an open source training for participatory media (O2), to facilitate the learning technics, methods and productions of participatory media on the scale of three countries represented by the project partners.
This development of participative and civic practices should help to strengthen the social link on the impacted territories and consolidate participatory media networks in Europe.
