Project Summary

The project “Partnership for bilingual citizenship education” involved the realization of actions in the field of building Strategic Partnership of Schools in Poland, Italy and Spain between subjects working towards stimulating active participation of young people in democratic life and increasing their civic responsibility through:
– improving language competences and abilities of children and teenagers,
– working out the methods of transregional and international cooperation aiming at the development of bilingual education and English language teaching,
– improving the quality of educational services provided by Partners and the competences of their staff
The partnership took place between three schools educating at the primary level from Poland, Spain and Italy.

The project supported the aims of the partnership crucial for the process of stimulating active participation of children and adolescence in democratic life and both bilingual education and English language teaching, that is:
– formation and stimulation of active participation of young people in democratic life and increasing their citizenship responsibility,
– development of bilingual education and English language teaching,
– improving the quality of education,
– the usage of the latest achievements in the field of methodology of teaching foreign languages,
– increasing the European dimension of partners taking part in the project,
– building long term cooperation and exchanging experiences,
– increasing knowledge and the scope of application of European methods used to raise students’ motivation and interest in learning for the aim of achieving better results,
– improving the management system of schools,
– promoting transregional and international cooperation.

The above-mentioned targets were realized through:
1. International project meetings covering the exchange of experiences and practices together with study visits of managerial and teaching staff (visits of foreign teams in Poland) and visits of teams from Poland in the countries of foreign partners (3 meetings).
2. Preparation and realization of the civic education programme that supports getting to know between pupils and both bilingual and English language education. The programme includes the following modules:
– The Citizen of the Region 3 programmes
– The Citizen of the Country 3 programmes
– The Citizen of Europe 1 programme
– The Citizen of the World 1 programme
3. Preparation and realization of 3 methodological workshops for teachers.
4. Preparing formal frameworks of cooperation allowing the realization of activities in the field of student mobility in a long-time perspective.
5. Disseminating the effects of cooperation through thematic seminars/conferences (one in Poland and 2 in partner countries) and publication of didactic materials.
Direct participants of the planned actions: 36 schools staff members, 175 students, 190 participants of dissemination events. Other indirect project recipients: all schools staff, students and their parents. Dissemination of actions and results, outside the school structures, also had an impact on governing authorities, local governmental bodies – decision-makers in the field of education at the local level and other local schools.
The project contributed to achieving the project aims and in long term perspective will allow for the continuation of the cooperation concentrating at exchanging experiences and methods of teaching, sharing knowledge and progress, creating transnational contexts of teaching through making partnerships, coordinating and participating in international projects.
