Project Summary
We are concerned about an increasing problem of obesity and overweight among children and adolescents. The reason for this is the reduction of daily physical activity, mechanization and computerization of basic activities as well as the consumption of processed food. In our partner schools we have observed the problem of avoiding physical education by obese and less fit teenagers, their lower self-esteem, helplessness and exclusion from the peer group. We are sure that by offering them a number of health-promoting and attractive physical activities without rivalry and assessments, including their parents in these activities, we will change their lifestyle.
Main objective: Increasing the number of students systematically undertaking physical activity and eating in a healthy way. It is divided into 9 specific objectives:
Increasing health awareness of children, teachers and parents
Creating suitable conditions for students to undertake attractive and various forms of physical activity in a safe and joyful atmosphere
Reduction of fear of physical activity among less fit and obese children
Motivating parents and children to spend time actively
Increasing teachers’ competences in their role as health promoters
Increasing awareness of the purpose of PE classes among teachers of this specialty
Teaching students how to make reasonable consumer decisions
Introducing changes in the diet of children and adults in accordance with the principles of healthy eating
Increasing self-esteem of less fit students
Participating in the project by students aged 11-13, their parents, teachers and school staff.
1. Children who come from families where proper nutrition guidelines, even basic ones, are not followed
2. Children who have little knowledge about healthy food. They cannot make a proper choice of products with beneficial effects on health
3. Children who avoid physical activity and lead a sedentary lifestyle. They spend a lot of time playing computer games in the virtual world
4. Children, whose parents or mentors organize many additional activities, so they have too little time for active physical games
5. Teachers of various subjects to enrich their competences, expand their workshop
6. Parents who are the first to shape their children’s health attitudes
7. All other school employees who are involved and interested in health-related topics of the project
There are activities planned in the areas of : physical activity (attractive physical activities) healthy eating habits (workshops with a dietitian, culinary classes, competitions) healthy lifestyles (workshops with a psychologist, diabetologist, BMI calculation, relaxation techniques).
We will make the achievement of project goals through quantitative and qualitative evaluation. Using ICT tools, we will conduct an initial online diagnosis using a survey among students participating in the project and in the control group. Conducting a survey at the beginning of the project and at the end will allow us to compare the obtained data. In the final phase, we will look for changes in the lifestyle of project participants and the control group. We will also present to the school community various artistic works prepared and related to the subject of the project. Students participating in the project will get a Passport to Health in the form of a booklet. They will conduct a personal health plan and collect stamps in their booklets by taking part in health-related activities. The final evaluation survey will summarize the students’ health attitudes. We will examine the satisfaction of participating in the project, increased awareness and skills in caring for health. We will obtain tangible and intangible results.
Project-related activities will certainly contribute to the long-term development of schools in introducing a healthy lifestyle. Thanks to various activities, students will be aware of the importance of taking care of health and how to achieve the intended goal. The project activities will be undertaken by students, teaching staff as well as other people cooperating with the school community like parents or school employees in the atmosphere of mutual support. Students will gain practical knowledge in three key aspects: physical activity, healthy eating habits and a healthy lifestyle. Interesting sports activities will be organized to suit the interests of students, thanks to which students and their relatives will open up to new forms of spending free time. Classes and workshops in the field of healthy nutrition, meetings with a diabetologist or interesting experiments will contribute to the development of awareness about consumer choices. Cooking classes about preparation of healthy meals will encourage students to prepare these dishes in their homes. Developed educational materials (videoblogs, cookbooks, lesson plans, charts, models, multimedia presentations) will remain in partner schools for a long time, so that they can be used repeatedly.
