Project Summary

PARTICIPANTS: project based, fundamentally, on LONG-TERM MOBILITIES of the students (3 months), made by students of 16-17 years (1st BTO in Spain and 2nd grade of General Secondary in Belgium) of the IES Ángel de Saavedra and the Ecole Internacionale Le Verseau. The PRIORITY OBJECTIVE is that 3 Belgian and 3 Spanish students for each year of the program (in total, 6) learn a second language (French, English and Spanish) by immersing themselves completely on a daily bases.
Prior to these, we see convenient the realization of a SHORT-TERM MOBILITY (1 week) with 20 students of 15-16 years (10 per school per year, 4th ESO / 1st grade), of which, to the extent of the possible, the candidates to the first will arise and that they have as objective the initial contact with the host school.
OBJECTIVES: to improve knowledge and awareness about the current European reality, linked to the common heritage (linguistic, cultural and natural) and to enhance linguistic competences in a foreign language, taking into account the diversity of students (cultural, economic and educational background).
CONTEXT AND BACKGROUND: the project starts from a collaboration between both schools, after participating in a Comenius project and had its culmination in year 2013-14 with the carrying out of a MAC (3 students per center), which continued the years 2014- 16 through a KA-2 of the E +. These experiences have been so enriching for students, teachers and families, that from them the idea of continuing in the same line of work arose, requesting the present KA-229 and even performing LTM outside of E +.
It is a 2-year program in which we propose some activities that will be repeated with a different student body in each school year, and with the relevant modifications after the intermediate evaluation of the project. The key of the METHODOLOGY is to learn a second language through complete immersion in it, daily coexistence with classmates and with host families; To achieve this, we propose these ACTIVITIES:
– LTM: after the selection process, thanks to a learning agreement, pupils will take the subjects taught during 1º BTO/2º General Secondary and they will have those subjects studied during the exchange validated. To achieve this, the collaborative work in the different subjects (learning by PROJECTS) will become the fundamental METHODOLOGICAL axis (“House of European History”, “Escape from palace: escape-room in Medina Azahara”, “To be or not to be European; that is the question”). On the other hand, they will visit some cities or emblematic places (Seville/Granada, Visitor Center of the European Parliament or natural sites of both regions).
At the end of the LTM, the students will make 3 more projects, of which the first 2 are common to the STM: “Chronicle of the experience”, group video assembly in which they will relate their experiences, “Building Europe with E +” , video in which an annual summary of the project KA-229 and “Radio Erasmus” will be exposed, radio interview for the students to relate the experience lived in the LTM.
– STM: prior to mobility, students will publish in an eTwinning project, their video-topics and questions/answers (Flipgrid), related to the topic chosen in relation to heritage (cultural, gastronomic, linguistic, natural …).
During the mobility, it will carry out 3 projects (“Our heritage in the hand of the sport of orienteering”, “Interactive cultural Itinerary” and “Investigating about Bruges”) and will make complementary visits to immerse themselves in the language and heritage, from different perspectives: visit to Seville/Granada and Leuven.
At the end of the STM, the students will participate in the 2 common projects previously exposed for the LTM.
In BOTH SCHOOLS and in the 2 TYPES OF MOBILITIES, European citizenship will be worked on, ATTENDING THE DIVERSITY of the students through measures such as: use of ICTs, group projects, personalized attention, methodological progressions …
The expected RESULTS are: improvement of linguistic and social competences of the students, deepening knowledge of heritage and other culture, implementation of new methodologies and construction of European identity in students.
By way of conclusion and as a basis for the LONG-TERM BENEFITS, say that not only does our project provoke students´ language learning in its original context, both educational and family (linguistic key competence), but it also provides students with the knowledge of the socio-cultural aspects that a language implies. This will supply them with an extra cultural background to the knowledge of the language, so necessary for building EUROPEAN CITIZENSHIP awareness, in addition to improving key competencies such as initiative and entrepreneurship, learning to learn, social and civic competencies or cultural awareness and expression.
